Course Description:

Using a lecture and discussion teaching format, this course provides a background in the concepts, processes and institutions in the financing of business enterprises. Topics covered include: financial statement analysis; interest rates and valuing cash flows (time value of money); valuing stocks & bonds; investment decision rules and capital budgeting; risk and return; and cost of capital. Concepts of international corporate finance are integrated throughout the course.

Required Materials:

·  Fundamentals of Corporate Finance, First Custom Edition for CSUF Finance 320, by Berk, DeMarzo, and Harford. Pearson Custom Publishing (2012) – purchase the new book package with ‘MyFinanceLab’ (used books will not have the MyFinanceLab access code)

·  Financial Calculator (Texas Instruments BA II PLUS preferred); Microsoft Excel

Prerequisite: ACCTG 201A

Classes are subject to administrative audit at anytime during the semester. Any unqualified student will be administratively dropped.

COURSE POLICIES

CHANGES TO THE SYLLABUS MAY BE MADE DURING THE TERM – STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ATTENDING CLASS AND BEING AWARE OF ANY RELEVANT CHANGES.

1.  The main purpose of the degree program at Mihaylo College of Business and Economics (MCBE) at CSU Fullerton is to provide you with the knowledge and skills that prepare you for a successful career in business. In order to assist us in achieving this goal, we will use a number of assessment tools to track your progress throughout the MCBE curriculum. Please expect to participate in MCBE assessment activities in several of your courses while at MCBE. As you do so, you will assist us in identifying our program’s strengths and weaknesses as well as areas for improvement. In other words, you are making an important investment in the value of your degree.

2.  Plus/minus grading will be used in this course. Please remember, that because FIN 320 is a College Core Course, you need a minimum grade of a C to keep from having to retake the course. You will earn the following grade if your weighted average course score falls within the following percentiles:

Alternatively, a curve may be applied if necessary.

1.  Quizzes and Homework: Homework assignments and quizzes are administered online through MyFinanceLab (see link on Titanium and instruction at the end of the syllabus). Two lowest scores of each will be dropped at the end of the term. Register online only once and complete quizzes and homework on-line. Late quizzes are not allowed. Late homework assignments, if permitted, are subject to 10% penalty (no excuses given). Students should register online within the first two weeks of semester. Otherwise they may be dropped from the class.

2.  Exams: MAKE-UP EXAMS ARE NOT GIVEN. You must take the exams as scheduled.

The Valuation Test and Comprehensive Final Exam are departmental requirements. Samples of the Valuation Test and Final Exam are available on the Finance Department Fin320 webpage at: http://business.fullerton.edu/finance/finance320.htm. Notes are not allowed during the final exam – a formula sheet will be provided.

5.  CSUF Policy on Disabled Students: The University requires students with disabilities to register within the first week of classes with the Office of Disabled Student Services (DSS), located in UH-101 and at (657) 278–3112 in order to receive prescribed accommodations and support services appropriate to their disability. The Final Exam is a common exam for the Department of Finance.
