“House Party ‘05” (Working Title)

INT.

A modified version of the FrequenC Pictures Ident rolls on screen. The signature tune is replaced by the films main score and the image is slightly colour graded to make it look more depressing and atmospheric.

FADE TO:

1.

EXT. THE CEMETERY – MORNING (10:30) DAY 1

The camera starts off behind a gravestone so the image is pretty much all black. It lifts up to reveal two teenagers, ASH and JEN. Both look rather upset.

JADE has a bunch of flowers in her hand. She places them down in front of the grave. ASH and JADE then take a moment for contemplation before leaving.

We follow them to the exit of the cemetery using various camera angles.

The below voice over plays over the top of this scene.

JEN (V.O.)

No one will ever know the real reason why. No one wants to know. It happened two years ago, and its still as fresh in our minds as it was back then. It’s typical for teenagers to want what they can’t have; we want it to go back to how it was.

FADE TO:

2.

INT. ASH’S BEDROOM – MORNING (10:00) DAY 2

The curtains are closed and the room is quite dark. Thanks to the little light that creeps through the window we can see how much of a mess the room is. Dirty clothes litter the floor along with countless magazines and DVD’s.

The camera moves closer to the bed and we see ASH, looking younger, lying in bed next to a girl who he obviously spent the night with.

ASH slowly wakes up and looks over to the girl. He groans, not wanting to be in this situation.

ASH

(under his breath)

Fuck.

ASH then sits up on the side of the bed and composes himself. At this point the girl, HALEY, wakes up and kisses ASH on the neck. HALEY has a smile on her face, while ASH rolls his eyes in despair.

HALEY

Morning.

ASH

Morning. Look I don’t mean to rush you or anything but my mum will be home soon.

HALEY

Okay. I’ll try and hurry up.

(loved up tone)

As long as we can do it again sometime.

ASH rolls his eyes once more.

ASH

Yeah. Definitely.

HALEY

Cool. Can I just get a shower?

ASH

Yeah. It’s second door on the left.

HALEY

Okay.

HALEY wraps the duvet cover around herself and proceeds to walk towards the bathroom. Once she has exited ASH’S bedroom ASH picks his mobile phone up off of his bedside cabinet.

Two Years Previously…

ASH dials a number and we hear the other end of the phone.

KARL (phone V.O.)

Hello?

ASH

Hi mate its Ash.

KARL (phone V.O.)

What are you doing up at this time.

ASH

No idea. Listen how drunk did I get last night?

KARL (phone V.O.)

(laughs)

Very. So who did you end up with this time?

ASH

That’s the thing. I don’t actually know her name.

KARL (phone V.O.)

Well what’s she look like?

ASH

Erm… blonde hair, quite short…

KARL (phone V.O.)
Ah, that’s…

SMASH CUT TO:

3.

EXT. THE LAKE – AFTERNOON (13:00) DAY 2

ASH and KARL are walking around the lake. The fresh air seems to have done some good, seen as both look fresh-faced.

KARL (CONT’D)

… Haley Green. I can’t believe you slept with her. You’re like here (displays with hands) and she’s way up there (displays with hands).

ASH

(sarcastically)

Thanks. That’s really nice of you.

KARL sniggers.

ASH

I’m sick of doing this.

KARL

Doing what?

ASH

I’m sick of getting wrecked every other night and waking up with girls who I don’t even know the name of.

KARL

Are you kidding? That’s every lads dream.

ASH

No. It’s pathetic.

KARL

Where are you going with this?

ASH

I need to settle down. Seriously.

KARL

So who do you have in mind?

ASH looks at KARL.

CUT TO:

4.

INT. JEN’S BEDROOM – AFTERNOON (13:30) DAY 2

JEN stands in front of her mirror holding various tops up to herself to try and find the perfect one. Sat on the nearby bed is her sister, JADE.

After unsuccessfully looking at around six tops JEN finally speaks.

JEN

Argh! How come I spend all my money on clothes but when it comes to finding something nice I can’t.

JADE

Do you know what time it is? There’s seven hours until the party. Relax.

JEN walks over to the bed and sits down.

JEN

You’re right. You can pick for me.

JADE

No problem. What are you so nervous for anyway?

JEN

‘Cos he’s going to be there.

JADE

(jokingly)

Well it’s got to be said… you’re officially pathetic.

JEN

(smiles)

No I’m not. You’re in love too; you know what it’s like.

JADE

Yeah.

JEN

Speaking of which, how are you and Karl?

JADE

We’re good. We’re really good.

JEN

Honestly?

JADE

Yeah. I mean we’ve had our ups and downs lately, but things are looking up. Finally.

We stay with a close up of JADE for a short while. Her facial expression shows that she is not really sure what she wants in life, relationship wise.

The music for the next scene starts to play here.

CUT TO:

5.

INT. DUNCAN’S HOUSE GROUND FLOOR – EVENING (20:30) DAY 2

With Steadi-cam® we drift through all the rooms on the ground floor. In every room there is something of interest and when the camera has picked up on it, it simply turns around and heads towards the next room.

Scattered about the place are approximately twelve people, all in their late teens. All are drunk and enjoying themselves and quite a few are kissing each other etc.

The camera is about to head into the living room.

INTERCUT TO:

6.

INT. DUNCAN’S LIVING ROOM – EVENING (20:30) DAY 2 CONT

In this continued shot we see a few more people in the living room. It’s lively in here and the music is at its loudest.

Empty alcohol bottles and cans litter the floor. Nearby and on the floor, two teenage boys play Electric Shock Roulette.

The camera turns around in a smooth motion and we see ASH looking for someone. JEN then enters the room looking amazing. Even ASH is shocked at how good she looks.

ASH

Hey. Wow you look…

JEN

(rather drunk)

What?

ASH

You look amazing. Really.

JEN

Thanks. You don’t look too bad yourself.

ASH

(smiles)

Have you seen Karl?

JEN

No sorry. Him and Jade we’re on about going for a walk earlier though.

ASH

Okay thanks.

ASH starts looking once more. We follow him out of the living room.

INTERCUT TO:

7.

INT. DUNCAN’S HALLWAY – EVENING (20:35) DAY 2 CONT

ASH walks into the hallway and hears a knock on the nearby front door. Seen as no one else is nearby, he answers it. It’s ANTON and MARK.

Both ANTON and MARK look rather strange. Not in the way they dress but in the way they come across generally. It’s obvious that ASH doesn’t like them.

ASH

What do you want?

ANTON

Will you let us in? Please.

ASH

Why should I? Do you have any booze?

MARK

No, but we’ve got money for some.

MARK produces two twenty- pound notes from his pocket and holds them at chest height. ASH then grabs the money out of MARK’S hand.

ASH

Then you’re more than welcome. Just don’t tell Duncan I let you in okay?

MARK and ANTON enter the house.

MARK

Yeah.

ANTON

Yeah, okay.

ASH starts to walk away leaving ANTON and MARK on their own.

ASH

Shut the door behind you.

MARK closes the front door. ASH then starts to walk up the stairs.

INTERCUT TO:

8.

INT. DUNCAN’S LANDING – EVENING (20:37) DAY 2

ASH walks up the stairs and onto the landing where a two teens, a boy and a girl, are kissing each other rather passionately. ASH looks at this whilst walking to the end room. JEN comes out of this room (the bathroom) and sees ASH watching the two other teens.

JEN

Is that your tongue on the floor?

ASH turns around to see JEN with a smile on her face.

ASH

What? Oh. Sorry.

JEN

Haven’t you found them yet?

ASH

No I’m just about to check the bedrooms.

JEN notices something over ASH’S shoulder but we don’t see it.

JEN

I wouldn’t bother if I were you Sherlock.

ASH

Why?

ASH looks behind himself and sees KARL and JADE, hand in hand, walking into DUNCAN’S bedroom. ASH then turns back to JEN and smiles.

ASH

Thanks.

(turns to KARL)

Karl.

KARL stops at the door whilst JADE walks into the bedroom. ASH walks over to KARL and starts to talk while JEN walks downtairs.

ASH

I need your advice.

KARL

On what?

ASH

(more quietly)

Should I tell her? Tonight I mean?

KARL

If you want. It’s up to you mate. I can’t make your decisions for you.

ASH

Well if you were me, would you?

KARL thinks for a short while.

KARL

I was you, and I did it, and look where it got me.

KARL points softly to the bedroom, obviously meaning JADE.

ASH

Okay. I’m going to tell her then.

KARL

Cool. Can I go now?

ASH

Yeah.

KARL

Good.

KARL enters the bedroom leaving ASH to think for a short while. He then walks downstairs (out of frame).

CUT TO:

9.

INT. DUNCAN’S KITCHEN – EVENING (20:40) DAY 2

JEN is in the kitchen making herself a Vokda and Coke. ANTON and MARK enter and suddenly ANTON’S eyes light up.

MARK

(rather creepy)

Hi, Jen.

JEN rolls her eyes and tries to act nice, even though she hates MARK and ANTON.

JEN

Hey.

JEN then exits the kitchen leaving MARK and ANTON alone.

INTERCUT TO:

10.

INT. DUNCAN’S HALLWAY – EVENING (20:41) DAY 2

JEN exits the kitchen and bumps into ASH who appears to be heading towards the living room.

JEN

Do you fancy going for a walk?

ASH

Erm… yeah. Okay.

JEN

Oh but first do me a favour.

ASH

What’s that?

JEN

Make sure Mark and Anton stay away from me.

ASH

(smiles)

Consider it done.

JEN

Thanks. I’ll just go and get my coat okay?

ASH

Yeah.

JEN walks out of frame. ASH then enters the kitchen.

INTERCUT TO:

11.

INT. DUNCAN’S KITCHEN – EVENING (20:42) DAY 2

MARK and ANTON are making themselves a drink. ASH enters and just watches what they’re doing for a while, but not in an untrusting way.

MARK

(to ASH)

Would you like a drink?

ASH

No. I’m okay thanks. Look will you just do yourselves a favour and stay away from Jen.

ANTON’S face drops. This is not what he wanted to hear.

ANTON

Why?

ASH

She just doesn’t like you talking to her that’s all. No one does.

MARK and ANTON look sad, as if they didn’t know this fact.

ASH (CONT’D)

Oh come on. It’s obvious. Just keep yourselves to yourselves tonight okay?

ANTON and MARK nod their heads. ASH exits the kitchen and whilst ANTON still has the sad look on his face, MARK’S look has turned to that of anger.

MARK

That’s why we’re doing it. Surely you understand now.

ANTON

Yeah.

MARK

It’s got to end, tonight.

ANTON

I know.

MARK

Otherwise it’ll just go on and on.

ANTON

(viciously)

I said I know!

MARK

Good.

RAMPING CUT TO:

12.

INT. A STREET – NIGHT (21:00) DAY 2

Starting with a ramping shot we see ASH and JEN walking down a random street, somewhere in between JEN’S house and DUNCAN’S house. JEN looks cold, and whilst ASH probably is too, he doesn’t show it.

ASH

Do you want my coat?

JEN

No I’m okay thanks.

ASH takes his coat off anyway and hands it to JEN.

ASH

Here. Have it.

JEN

(smiles)

Thanks.

JEN puts the coat on and it is way too big for her.

JEN

(sarcastically)

It fits me then.

ASH laughs but then notices that JEN doesn’t seem herself on this walk.

ASH

Is there something wrong? You seem a bit… off.

JEN hesitates to give an answer.

JEN

I need to tell you something.

ASH

Okay, what?

JEN is too nervous to tell ASH.

ASH

What? Tell me.

JEN stops walking and stands still, so ASH does the same.

JEN

I think I’m in love with you.

ASH is shocked, but in a good way.

ASH

I… I don’t know what to say.

JEN

I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said anything. Just forget it okay.

JEN carries on walking, leaving ASH stood still and thinking.

ASH

I’m in love with you too.

JEN stops dead in her tracks and tries to take this in before turning around to see ASH. When she does so ASH gives a nervous smile.

ASH

I was going to tell you tonight as well, but you bet me to it.

JEN still can’t get over the shock of this.

JEN

Are you being serious?

ASH

Yeah. For the first time in my life, yeah I am.

There’s a silence between the two as they both try and comprehend what’s happening.

ASH

Can we just kiss or something ‘cos this is really weird.

JEN

(laughs)

Yeah.

JEN and ASH slowly move closer and kiss.

JEN

(slightly nervous)

We could go to mine instead of back to the party. My house is closer anyway.

ASH understands what this would mean.

ASH

If you’re sure.

JEN

Yeah. I am.

ASH smiles and kisses JEN once more.

CUT TO:

13.

INT. DUNCAN’S BEDROOM – NIGHT (21:40) DAY 2

KARL and JADE are lying next to each other in bed. JADE has her head on KARL’S chest and he has his arm around her.

KARL

We should get up soon. Duncan will go mad if he sees us.

JADE

Let him go mad. Besides, I’m quite comfy.

KARL

(smiles)

You know what I’ve been thinking. We should go away somewhere for a while. Nowhere special, just somewhere where we can forget everything else apart from us.

JADE

Yeah. That sounds good.

DISSOLVE TO:

14.

INT. JEN’S BEDROOM – NIGHT (23:00) DAY 2

JEN and ASH are lying in the bed. JEN has a content smile on her face.

ASH’S mobile phone starts to ring. He reaches over to his trousers which are on the floor and takes the phone out of one of the pockets. With a close shot we see the display: ‘KARL CALLING’. ASH lets the phone ring.

JEN

Aren’t you going to answer it?

ASH

Erm… no.

JEN

It might be important.

ASH

It won’t be. He’ll just want some more booze or something.

ASH cancels the call and throws his mobile onto the floor.

ASH

We should go back, don’t you think?

JEN

Why can’t we stay here?

ASH

Well there’s one bad thing about your house.

JEN

What’s that?

ASH

There’s no booze.

JEN

(smiles)

Sorry. My mum and dad don’t really drink that much.

ASH

Your Jade does. There must be a secret stash somewhere.

JEN

Well I wouldn’t know, ‘cos it’s a secret.

ASH

(smiles)

So can we go back?

JEN

Yeah.

RAMPING CUT TO:

15.

EXT. DUNCAN’S HOUSE (FRONT) – NIGHT (23:40) DAY 2

Starting with a ramping shot we see ASH and JEN walk to the front door of the house. They stop before entering.

ASH

Look erm… maybe we shouldn’t tell anyone about this. Not just yet.

JEN

I thought you’d want to tell people.

ASH

Well I do. It’s just, if we tell them when they’re drunk we’ll never hear the end of it.

JEN

Okay.

ASH smiles kisses JEN. He then opens the front door.

INTERCUT TO:

16.

INT. DUNCAN’S HALLWAY – NIGHT (23:40) DAY 2

ASH enters the house and JEN shortly follows. We immediately know something is wrong. The music plays loudly but we do not hear any voices coming from anywhere.

JEN closes the door behind her. Both ASH and JEN look confused.

ASH

Where is everybody?

ASH notices an unopened alcho-pop on the floor so he picks it up and bites the top off. He then begins to drink.

ASH

Okay this is weird.

ASH and JEN walk out of frame.

CUT TO:

17.

INT. DUNCAN’S KITCHEN – NIGHT (23:42) DAY 2

The camera is alone in the kitchen for a while. ASH slowly opens the kitchen door and his jaw drops. He then lets go of the bottle, which we see smash on the floor.

ASH

Oh my God.

JEN then pushes by ASH to see what he’s looking at. She sees what ever is on the floor and is too shocked to say anything.

The camera then tracks back to reveal the body of a teenage boy lying in a pool of blood.
