Youth Centres:

Märjamaa Open Youth Centre (EI ref: 2011-EE-30)

Märjamaa Youth Centre is a governmental organisation which works in local level. It has a prevention function to avoid violence, alcoholism and drug addiction among youngsters of Märjamaa. This project has educational value for the volunteer. It is a chance for him/her to get the experience of social work and pedagogical work with kids in a different society. The Centre will give to the volunteer a place and children to realise his/her ideas. The children are very open and ready to try new and interesting activities. The volunteer will have good support to find best activities for him/herself.

Kohila Municipality Government (youth centre) (EI ref: pending!)

Kohila Parish Government is interested in raising the awareness of the citizens and thereby supporting the development of our parish as a whole. The work involves mostly children and youngsters, but it doesn’t mean that adults are excluded from the process. The main activities for the volunteer are foreseen in Kohila Open Youth Centre and in Hageri Culturehouse. The project is open to everybody who is positive, creative, with good communication skills, friendly. Volunteers don’t need to have previous experiences in Youth Work, neither special education. Most important is that they are willing to work with children and Youth.

Sauga Open Youth Center (Ei ref: 2013-EE-7)

The aim of Sauga Open Youth Center is to organize and arrange local young people’s, aged 7-26 years, spare time through different events, activities, camps, outings, projects, meetings, trainings etc. The volunteer will bring freshness to the center and Sauga commune and also motivate youngsters to think about their future. The volunteer will raise intercultural awareness among the youngsters and the staff and will give a new reason for the youngsters to visit the youth center, organise events and take part from different events.

Rakvere Social Support Centre (EI ref: 2013-EE-23)

The Children’s Day Centre, where the volunteer is expected to work, is the place for the kids who do not get enough support from home. The children can study, communicate and play with the other children in the centre. There are around 15 children daily in the Centre. It is a great opportunity for the volunteer to get to know Estonian country and culture as the Centre is organising outings and excursions for the children at least once a month and volunteer will be involved in those as well. It is also a chance for the young volunteer to develop his/her skills and personality through activities and helping children.

Institutions for disabled adults and children:

Ida-Virumaa County's Chamber for Disabled People (EI ref: 2013-EE-30)

House of Disabled People would like to share their skills and experiences with young volunteers, at the same time getting new ideas from them and learning new skills. The aims and activities for the volunteer in the House of Disabled People are seen as teaching social skills to the clients; assisting in manual work, art and music lessons; organising outings, visits to the places of interest, other similar projects, etc; helping staff and clients with daily tasks as required.

SA Perekodu (EI ref: 2012-EE-20)

Perekodu SA is an institution with different services for children in Viljandi County. It has two departments: department for disabled kids and orphanage in Väikemõisa. The main tasks of the volunteer in Pärsti department are looking after children, helping social workers in their daily needs and organising different activities for the kids. Volunteer’s tasks depend very much on his/her interests and skills. Most of the kids need a mentor in the class or in free time. (S)he can be hands or legs for the children in a wheelchair, helping to dress, with feeding or some other basic needs what it is needed. With some children it is possible to go further than just basic help. It is possible to organise different events, games, do handicraft, sport, go to the city, cinema or do some music.

Imastu Residential School (EI ref: 2011-EE-6)

Imastu Residential School is home for about 100 psychically and mentally disabled children and youngsters. There are 5 family-groups in the building and in each group lives about 19-22 disabled children with difference diagnosis. There are two children group (age 6 - 18) and three youngsters group (age 18 and up). The main educational value of this EVS project is in providing young volunteers with profound experience of social work and assistance to those in real need. This experience may determine future studies of field of work for some of the volunteers. Besides the project will give volunteer a chance to experience life deep in the countryside raising in an alternative way the European awareness.

AS Hoolekandeteenused Karula Kodu (EI ref: 2013-EE-26)

Karula Home provides 24-hours supported living for adults with mental and physical disabilities. KAKO strives to be open, welcoming visitors and as much as possible, providing the clients possibilities to go out for excursions, sports events, concerts etc. The volunteer(s) will have an opportunity to learn about the life - the joys and difficulties- of people with special needs and multiple disabilities. They will learn, if not experienced before, how to work and communicate with people with learning disabilities, people with special physical needs etc. If interested, they will learn about Estonian social welfare system. In case a volunteer intends to build a career in social services, this experience will be invaluable for the future.

Kindergartens:

Kindergarten Punamütsike (EI ref: 2013-EE-28)

Kindergarten works in 11 groups: three groups for small kids: 1,6 to 3 years and seven for children aged 3 to 7. There are 54 teachers and employees. Beside of personal growth, being a volunteer in Võru kindergarten Punamütsike, is an opportunity for a young person to get to know pedagogical work; develop his/her organisational skills; get practice in teaching children; learn new language and culture as well as get experience in a teamwork.

Kindergarten Päkapikk (EI ref: 2012-EE-47)

Kindergarten works in 10 groups: two groups for small kids: 1,5 to 3 years and eight for children aged 3 to 7. There are 44 teachers and employees. The kindergarten has joined the program "Step by Step" what is well known method based of children individual needs. The main tasks of the volunteer are following: participate and help teachers in games or lessons with children, prepare lessons and materials for activity, help music teacher in music lessons. Volunteer can bring his songs and games and teach simple songs in his language, prepare festivals or holidays (Christmas, Easter, Independence Day etc).

Kindergarten Midrimaa (EI ref: 2013-EE-32)

Märjamaa kindergarten “Midrimaa” gathers about 80 local children aged 2 to 7. Midrimaa kindergarten is participating actively in “Step by Step” program (since 1994) specially designed for East and Central Europe countries as introduction of Western democracy to the kids and a way to teach them how to make choices in the life. The main objective of the EVS project is to provide children with the first experience of foreign languages and intercultural learning, which is still missing in the rural areas of Estonia although being recognised as an important part children general education. One should keep in mind that in a few years these children will become the active citizens of Estonia and European Union. For the volunteer, this project is an opportunity to get an international experience of social and pedagogical work with kids. But also to practice living in the unusual conditions (in other country) and will develop his/her skills in social integration and independent life.
