  • Discussion held on trip to Nashville for Annual Conference and how people were going to get there
  • APIC Indiana dinner to be held on Sunday, June 7th

  • APIC Annual Conference June 27-29, Nashville, TN
  • Indiana HIV outbreak
  • Indiana’s outbreak made Time magazine
  • Kelly Jolliff brought up the large sum of money that was spent toward Ebola preparedness and how it is so much more than is spent on HIV, where HIV is a constant threat. She discussed that she would like to do a study of the number of HIV cases and the allowance for HIV preparedness over the years.
  • MERS: Susan Kraska discussed the new guidelines sent out and asked that everyone please share with physicians, ED and ID physicians, ICU, Administration and others
  • Resistant Shigella: Susan Kraska discussed Ciprofloxacin-resistant shigella in Chicago and said they were testing someone that may have it.
  • Indiana TB outbreak: Susan Kraska informed members that there was an Indiana student diagnosed with MDR TB in Clark County. The case was diagnosed in Floyd County. Many contacts at her school and church have had positive skin tests. She traveled from India to the US in April, was at O’Hare airport and other cities before being admitted to a Chicago hospital. She was transferred to NIH in Maryland.
  • Legionella: Helen Sookradge discussed a possible Legionella outbreak at IU Health LaPorte Hospital. There were 2 patients diagnosed, but one appears to have been infected before admission. They treated the water by hyperchlorination of the water system.
  • Members discussed the decrease in funding for ISDH and possible effects.
  • Susan Kraska informed members that Shawn Richards from ISDH applied for a grant and was approved to give the APIC Indiana Program Committee $17,000 a year for 3 years to educate Infection Preventionists.
