All parties jointly agree to the following:
- There will be no monetary compensation for participation in shadowing programs.
- The shadowing experience shall be at a business/industry site directly related to the occupational interest expressed by the student.
- The parent or guardian shall be responsible to the school for the conduct of the student who is participating in the shadowing program.
- Safety instructions will be provided by the employer.
- Adequate insurance coverage for the student will be provided by:
Job Shadowing during School hours and outside of school hour’s coverage are provided by the SC School Boards Insurance Trust (SCSBIT). For PAID experiences requiring work beyond normal school hours, the training site must provide Workers’ Compensation for the students, as they would any other employee while on site. Parents provide all other coverage. (List who has coverage: school, parents, business, etc.)
- As long as the job shadowing experience is created and controlled under the district’s school-to-work program, the student is covered for Workers’ Compensation.
- Students who participate in work study, distributive education, apprentice or similar programs on the premises of private companies, but only during the course of their employment in such programs are covered under the districts Tort Liability Policy.
- Students meeting these same criteria are covered by the districts personal injury insurance as well during the time of employment within the program.
- A copy of the employers Certificate of Liability Insurance is being provided for the student’s records along with bonding certification if required for specific type of business with job placement.
- A copy of the employers Certificate of Liability Insurance is being provided for the student’s records along with bonding certification if required for specific type of business with job placement.
- This agreement may be terminated after consultation with the coordinator for due cause or for
unforeseen business conditions.
- The shadowing site shall conform to all federal, state, and local labor laws while providing student with a variety of observation experiences.
- The shadowing site shall provide an evaluation of the student after experience.
- The student will remain at the shadowing site for the identified minimum amount of time.
- The student will report to the shadowing site on (date), at am until pm
- The parent/guardian will provide transportation for the student to and from the shadowing agency.
- HCS shall not be liable for any injuries sustained by the student participating in this program.
