Horizontal and Vertical Shielded Metal Arc Welding TCCs

In May 2004 the state wide Welding IFCC met and proposed curricula for the TCC Consolidation Project. The result of this endeavor is the IFCC proposed TCCs. DTAE Staff reviewed the proposed IFCC TCCs. After consideration DTAE proposed further consolidation. The matrix below outlines the IFCC proposed TCCs and the DTAE recommended consolidation.

IFCC Proposed / DTAE Proposed
Flat Shielded Metal Arc Welding Fabricator / Vertical Shielded Metal Arc Welding Fabricator
Horizontal Shielded Metal Arc Welder
Horizontal Shielded Metal Arc Welding Fabricator
Vertical Shielded Metal Arc Welder
Vertical Shielded Metal Arc Welding Fabricator
Recommended Action – IFCC:
Recommends proposed IFCC TCCs Flat Shielded Metal Arc Welding Fabricator, Horizontal Shielded Metal Arc Welder, Horizontal Shielded Metal Arc Welding Fabricator, Vertical Shielded Metal Arc Welder, andVertical Shielded Metal Arc Welding Fabricator.
The Welding IFCC proposed TCCs used industry recognized levels of competency for each TCC. These competencies require 100 contact hours of instruction. Each level of competency could be delivered in evening classes in progression. The IFCC also accommodated two areas of occupation: welders and fabricators. Local Advisory Committees have asked different colleges for welders or fabricators. Welders fill manufacturing occupations and fabricators to fill repair and special careers. The elective in the fabricator TCCs is generally designated as a print reading course, which helps prepare students for that career.
Recommended Action – DTAE Staff:
Since there is only one course difference between each of the IFCC proposed TCCs and three of the IFCC proposed TCCs are virtually duplicated, DTAE Staff recommends the proposed IFCC TCCs Flat Shielded Metal Arc Welding Fabricator, Horizontal Shielded Metal Arc Welder, Horizontal Shielded Metal Arc Welding Fabricator, Vertical Shielded Metal Arc Welder, and Vertical Shielded Metal Arc Welding Fabricator be further consolidated into DTAE proposed Vertical Shielded Metal Arc Welding Fabricator which would require completion of Flat Shielded Arc Welder for admission.
