Hopes and Dreams for the Portfolio

• Complete your normal hopes and dreams activities in the classroom.

• Bring student work to the computer lab.

• Students will bring up template on their own computers, through a shared folder that all students can access. The template can also be found on the ICT page on the PSS website.

• To access the shared folder have each student double click on:

• To access the ICT website: bring up the PSS homepage on the Internet. Find the link for the ICT page, and then click on it. Scroll down to find the Hopes and Dreams template. Click on the template to bring it up on the computer. Once clicked on the hopes and dreams template should appear on the desktop.

• Text boxes have already been placed in the document. In Publisher text boxes are activated when you click on them. After you have activated the text box, the formatting tool bar will appear.

• Students need to type their name in the top text box. (They do this by clicking in the box and typing) They also need to include the date.

• Students need to type their hopes and dreams in the second text box. Their hopes and dreams can be in sentence form or in bullet form. (The template is set up for sentence form. If the students would prefer bullet form they need to click in the text box and then click on the bulleting tool on the formatting tool bar.

• Students will then format their words into a font and color of their choice.

• Students will then add their choice of clip art to represent themselves at the bottom of the page. Be sure to click OUT OF THE TEXT BOX before you try to insert your picture.

• To insert a picture:

• “Move your cursor up to the tool bar and find the word Insert. Scroll down to the word picture and then move the cursor over to clipart and click.”

• “ Students click in the ‘Search for Clips’ box and type in a word for something you think represents you and your hopes and dreams. Then hit the ‘enter’ key.”

• “Choose the picture you like best and click on it. A new tool bar will pop up. Choose the first choice at the top. This will insert your picture into your poem.”

• “ The picture may be too big or too small for your poem. To change the size of your picture click on it and a box will appear around it. Choose one of the points at one of the corners and click and drag toward the middle of the picture to make it smaller or click and drag out to make it bigger. Keep doing this until you get your picture the size you want it.”

• If the picture is not where you want it on the page, click on it and drag it to where you would like it to be.

• Students will add in their reflection on the second page of the template.

• To access the 2nd page of the template look to the bottom of the screen for page 2.

• Students will save their work into their X drive folders.

• To Save work in their X drive folder:

• Go to the top of the page and click on File, and then scroll down to ‘Save As’

• Have the students click on the down arrow in the ‘Save In’ box.

• The students then need to choose their X drive from the pop down list, and click on it.

• They should then change the file name to “Hopes and Dreams” and finally click ‘Save’.
