Class Overview: Students in English III analyze United States literature as it reflects social perspective and historical significance by continuing to use language for expressive, expository, argumentative, and literary purposes. The emphasis in English III is critical analysis of texts through reading, writing, speaking, listening, and using media.

In addition, the student will:

  • Relate the experiences of others to their own.
  • Research the diversity of American experience.
  • Examine relationships between past and present.
  • Build increasing sophistication in defining issues and using argument effectively.
  • Create products and presentations which maintain standard conventions of written and language

NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES ALLOWED! THIS INCLUDES, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, CELL PHONES, IPODS, MP3 PLAYERS, HEADPHONES, OR HANDHELD GAME CONSOLES. If I see an electronic device, I will take it up and turn it in to the office. ***This is a school wide policy! ***

Consequences:

1st offense: Verbal Warning

2nd offense: Parent contact

3rd offense: Office referral

Serious offenses will automatically receive an office referral.

TARDY POLICY AND ABSENCE POLICY ARE FOLLOWED BY THE STUDENT HANDBOOK

Materials Needed:

1.Pencils, blue or black pens

2.Paper

3.A three-ring binder for English class ONLY with 5 dividers (Notes, Writing, Literature, Vocabulary, and Returned Work) I will do random binder checks throughout the year for a quiz grade.

4.You should bring your literature book to class everyday unless I instruct you otherwise

GRADING: Free homework grade of 100 for bringing in a box of Kleenex or one pack of computer paper.

Participation- 10%

Tests 20%

Papers 20 %

Project and Presentations 20%

***LATE WORK IS NOT ACCEPTED*** In the event you are absent, you have the number of days you were absent to make up missed assignments. (For instance, if you missed 2 class days, you will have 2 days upon your return to make up your work.) Do not ask for your missed assignments during instructional time. You need to come before or after school to receive missed assignments.

HONORS PROJECT

You will be required to complete a research project this semester. The research project will include reading a novel outside of class and completing extensive research in order to write a literary analysis. Further instructions will be given at a later date.
