Background

  • “Horse of the Year Show” (HOYS)is the most prestigious equestrian competition in Hong Kong, marking the end of local equestrian competition season. Some 100 riders and horses compete in the show every year, striving to win honours in the three disciplines of Jumping, Dressage and Eventing.
  • This year, The Hong Kong Jockey Club is the gold sponsor of the show. Apart frombeing a sponsor and venue provider, the Club also supports the HKJC Junior Equestrian Team members as well as riding instructors from its various riding schools to participate in the competitions.
  • “Horse of the Year Show 2010” boasts the “CIC* Eventing” and “FEI Jumping Challenge”which are qualifiers for the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games as well as the first Youth Olympic Game Jumping competitions.
  • Through supporting the show, the Club hopes to further promote equestrian and other sports in Hong Kong as well as strengthen Hong Kong’s status as the “Equine Capital”.

Programmes

  • “Horse of the Year Show 2010” lasts four days. It will be staged at the Hong Kong Jockey Club Beas River Country Club and ShaTinPenfoldPark in the second and third weekends of April.The show boasts a full programme of exciting competitions including the high-level events, the “CIC* Eventing” and “FEI Jumping Challenge”.
  • The CIC* Eventing, which has been scheduled for 10 and 11 April, is one of the qualifiers for the Eventing competition of the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games.

  • The FEI Jumping Challenge, scheduled for 17and 18 April, is one of the most popular events at HOYS, attracting participation of most local elite riders. Excellent performers at the challenge will have the chance to represent HK in the first Youth Olympic Games to be staged in Singapore this August.

  • Pony rides: Participants aged between 3 and 15, weighing below 140 lbs are eligible to enjoy pony riding sessions during the show.
  • Photo-taking with Mini Ponies:Participants can pose for photos with ponies.
  • Vaulting Performance: Three-time world equestrian vaulting champion Christoph Lensing and hisstudents will demonstrate gymnastics on horseback.

Admission tickets are required for the show. Free tickets will be available at all Districts Leisure Services Office of Leisure and Cultural Services Department from Thursday, 8 April 2010 onwards on a first-come-first-served basis. Ticket holders are eligible to enjoy the free shuttle bus servicesfrom Shatin MTR station (Exit B) to PenfoldPark, and from Fanling MTR station (Exit A) to Beas River Country Club on 11, 17 and 18 April 2010.
