LBC Homeschool Enrichment Class Descriptions

Art Class: The children will complete a variety of projects involving different art techniques and styles. Some examples are working with Sculpey Clay, making a diorama, painting on rocks, paper maché, drawing and sketching, and making puppets. The children will learn about keeping a Nature Journal: what is a Nature Journal, why it is important, its relation to learning science and how to sketch various aspects of nature that God has created for us. We will also spend a small segment of time each class learning about famous artists and studying their work. This will cover Art Appreciation. Some examples of artists could include the works of Norman Rockwell, Claude Monét, and Camille Pissarro.

Band/Orchestra:Elementary (6-13)& High School (14+) Students are encouraged to take this course as beginners, intermediate or advanced players any instrument/any level.

Cooking Class: Ages 3 to 5 and 6 to 9 will start with a brief overview of kitchen utensils and equipment, kitchen safety and clean up, and proper conduct in a kitchen. We will then start with no bake recipes and build up to fun ways they can enjoy cooking. We will smash and mash our food and also decorate fun cookie shapes. Educational aspects of the food we eat will be included as time allows.

Ages 10 to 12 will start with a basic overview as well and then begin making fun kitchen recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They will have fun learning to run kitchen equipment and even learn how to make desert in the microwave.

Ages 13 to 18 will be expected to prepare more difficult dishes and will learn more the cooking in general than the other ages. This is a great time to foster a love of cooking that can really improve their lives to come. Students will receive recipes, teacher will assist in cooking, andthen be encouraged to prepare it at home for their families. We will discuss nutrients and vitamins and the way they help us grow. Once the children learn to be carefully confident in the kitchen they can learn to love healthy food that is fun to make.

All students are required to bring an apron and an oven mitt that the child can wear when we cook to be left at church until the end of enrichment classes and will receive a cookbook containing all the recipes we cooked together.

Older students will learn necessary techniques to properly write an essay such as what they will encounter for graduation requirements , college entrance exams, etc. Junior high ages will mainly focus on journal writing applications using basic techniques.
