Home Learning is given out on Fridays and should be handed in by Early Morning Learning on the following Thursday please.

All Home Learning should be completed in pencil please, unless your child has a Pen License. Please remind your child that presentation expectations apply to Home Learning activities as well as their learning that they complete in the Academy. Therefore, children are to write themselves and in fancy writing please. You can support your child with their letter formation by using the letter mat and ditties included in the plastic wallet at the front of this Home Learning book.

Reading:

  • Please encourage your child to read for 15 minutes a day but at least three times a week.
  • If your child reads independently, it is important that they discuss with you what they have read.
  • Any type of reading, not just the books from the Academy, can be recorded in your child’s Reading Record.
  • Your child can also access eBooks online through the Oxford Owl website using their class login and password.

  • For every ten times your child has read at home, they will receive a prize from Mrs Meredith.

Spellings:

  • Half of your child’s spellings each week will come from the Year 3/4 Word List, which is a list of words that by the end of Year 4 children must be able to define, read and write.
  • The other half of the words will come from the learning that they have done during that week in Phonics or be words that link to their current topic.
  • Spelling tests always take place on a Friday unless you are told otherwise.
  • If your child would like to practise their spellings more than the three times on their sheet then please encourage them to do so on the next empty page in this Home Learning book.
  • Please read through the Year 3/4 Word List with your child regularly and help them to learn to read and spell the words.
  • Your child will also have a Spellings Follow Up Activity, which will encourage them to learn the definition of the words or practise them further.

Maths/English/Topic:

  • Each week your child will have a Maths, English or Topic task to complete.
  • Maths tasks will be activities that will help with number skills, calculations, puzzles or times tables. Please also use the times tables resource in the plastic wallet at the front of this book to help your child to practise them regularly.
  • English tasks will be based on the Punctuation and Grammar that the year group are working on.
  • Topic tasks will be linked to the topic but children will need to use their basic skills and write in perfect sentences using fancy writing please.
