HOLY BAPTISM IN HIGH MASS : Sunday 22nd May

VERGER & MC PREPARATION

  1. x10 Chairs against wall round Perpetual Succour area for baptismal party to wait before the Child is received.
  2. Reserve x2 front rows epistle side
  3. Water in font (water in asperges bucket blessed before and added)
  4. Baptismal shell on font
  5. CATECHISM oil with purificator behind churchwarden’s stall on epistle side (for Deaocn to take and hold)
  6. CHRISM oil on font with purificator
  7. A candle on credence – lit from paschal Candle and brought by Verger to Font for end of Baptism.

MC

  1. Celebrant wears chasuble for entrance.
  2. Incense is put on after the Reception of the Child

PART 1 : (Before Mass) HYMN = Procession to Good Shepherd for the Reception of the Child.

Procession: Cross & Acolytes followed by thurifer (if this is the norm – incense not put on)

At Good Shepherd :

  1. Cross and Acc turn left, stop and turn round to face the Narthex (Sacred Heart)
  2. SM’s and MC stand facing Sacred Heart to greet the Child and baptismal party
  3. MC (or Dcn) holds book to right of Cel.
  4. Reception of the Child (concluding with admittance into the Temple of God)

Sol Mass begins as Introit starts

  1. Incense is brought and put on & thurifer goes to front of procession to altar to cense as usual during Introit & Kyrie
  2. Gloria, Greeting and Collect
  3. Liturgy of the Word as normal

PART 2 : After Sermon

  1. Litany begins – there is plenty of time to get to the Font
  2. Deacon (preacher) remains on floor of Nave, gospel side to join procession to baptistery.
  3. Cel and SDcn go to altar step
  4. Acolytes collect candles from credence and stand behind Cel & Sdcn
  5. Genuflect
  6. Acolytes lead down centre aisle to Baptistery, (SDcn , Dcn and Cel follow in single file, followed by Child and Parents and godparents etc)
  7. Acolytes stop either side entrance to baptistery area (pillars with angels) and turn round to face High Altar.
  8. Station 1 – outside the Baptistery : Cel , Dcn and SDcn stop in front of Font (Dcn takes up Oil of Catechumens and purifcator and goes to left so as to be on Cel right; SDcn goes to right so as to be on Cel left when facing the congregation); turn round to face the Baptism party and the People for the General Profession of Faith, Ephpheta, Rununciation of Sin and Anointing with Oil of Catechumens (which Dcn holds) MC holds book on Cel’s right.
  9. Station 2 – inside the Baptistery Cel, Dcn and SDcn go into baptistery behind Font
  10. Child is brought to left of Celebrant
  11. MC holds book on Cel’s left (if poss. Or in directly in front of Cel.)
  12. Final Profession of faith, the Baptism, Anointing with Chrism, The White garment, the Lighted Candle.
  13. Acolytes lead SM’s to Sanctuary, genuflect and to Sedilia for the Prayer of the Faithful
  14. Mass as normal
