Holloway Sixth Grade School

October Faculty Bulletin

Notes From Mr. Splinter’s Desk

The month of September was amazing. I could not ask for a better group of kids. The students are working hard for their teachers and their behavior is excellent. We hope that your student has had a wonderful first nine weeks, and I ask that you contact our office anytime you have concerns that need to be addressed.

We are now collecting the orders for our school-wide fundraiser during the first week of October. Here are some of the items that are purchased for the students with fundraiser money.

Smart Boards for four classrooms

12 laptops for our mobile computer lab

End of the year field trip

Various awards for student recognition

And much, much more.

I would like to thank you in advance for your participation.

The objective of education
is to prepare the young
to educate themselves throughout their lives.

Holloway Dress Code

The district’s dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, instill discipline, prevent disruption, avoid safety hazards, and teach respect for authority. Student dress reflects the quality of the school and affects students’ conduct. Students shall be dressed and groomed in a manner that is clean and neat and that will not be a health or safety hazard to themselves or others. Any article of clothing, jewelry, body decoration or hairstyle extreme enough to create a distraction or disturb the normal routine of school shall be deemed inappropriate. The district prohibits any clothing or grooming that in the principal’s judgment may reasonably be expected to cause a disruption of or interference with normal school operations.

1.  Students may not wear hats, caps, or bandannas anywhere on the school grounds (unless it is of a religious nature).

2.  Tops must cover the midsection completely when sitting, standing, raising arms and participating in normal class activities. See-through tops, pants, leggings, and tube tops are not allowed.

3.  Tops should not be low cut (neck or underarm) or too tight. Straps on tops need to be at least 3 inches in width.

4.  Students may not have exposed body piercing jewelry excluding earrings. (i.e. tongue, nose, eyebrow, etc.)

5.  Shoes must be worn at all times. House shoes and shoes designed for beach or bath wear may not be worn at school.

6.  Students may not have excessive or distracting makeup/hair color.

7.  All clothing should be free of inappropriate or disruptive slogans, phrases, pictures, tobacco or alcohol advertising, sexual or drug-related references.

8.  Skirts must be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee while properly worn when standing.

9.  Pants should be sized appropriately and fastened at the waist. Sagging pants are not allowed.

10.  Frayed jeans and jeans with holes in them are not permitted.

11.  Shorts may be worn if they are no shorter than 4 inches above the knee. They must be hemmed and cuffed garments that are designed for outerwear. No cut-offs, short shorts, biking shorts, boxer shorts or walking shorts.

12.  Students may not wear flannel sleep ware or pajamas.

13.  Students may not wear see-through, provocative, or excessively tight clothing, i.e., spandex tights, shorts or pants and excessively tight dresses or skirts.

14.  .Leggings and jeggings may only be worn with shirts that reach the student’s mid-thigh and are the same length around. The shirt must be the same length in the front and back.

15.  Undergarments should not be seen when students are sitting or standing.

16.  Symbols on clothing or jewelry cannot distract or cause undue attention.

17.  Racially related symbols, emblems, pictures, words, slogans, or tattoos are not allowed.

18.  Students may not have symbols, words, lines, or slogans cut into hair, eye brow shaving, gang related engraving, racially related, provocative, otherwise deemed inappropriate by the campus principal.

19.  Students may not wear dark glasses (unless prescribed by a physician).

20.  Students may not wear clothing that is torn or clothing with holes

21.  Clothing cannot be worn in a manner for which it was not intended, i.e., backwards, inside out, off-the-shoulder suspenders.

22.  Students may not wear any accessory or clothing article deemed gang-related as determined by the school administration.

23.  Students must wear appropriate undergarments.

Beards, goatees, or other obvious forms of facial hair with the exception of mustaches will not be permitted in grades 6-12. Regardless of the student’s sex, hairstyle, or length of hair, it shall not be covering any part of eyes, or face and he/she must insure the hair is maintained, neat and in a clean condition. Good health habits will be the priorities when dealing with the student’s grooming. If the principal determines that a student’s grooming violates the dress code, the student may be given an opportunity to correct the problem at school. If not corrected, the student may be assigned to in-school suspension for the remainder of the day or until the problem is corrected.

Final decisions on the appropriateness of school dress rest with the campus administration.

If you have any questions, please contact the office at (903) 839-5656.

Attention Parents!

Halloween is Monday, October 13st. Due to the fact that it disrupts the learning environment, we ask that students do not wear costumes to school that day.
