Holiday homework - Grade:7
- Aim:To construct a telescope.
Materials required:
- Convex lens – 2
- Paper towel roll
- Cardboard
Procedure:
- Roll up the sheet of the cardboard to form a tube.
- The diameter of the tube should be about the diameter of the convex lens with the shorter focal length.
- The shorter focal length convex lens will act as the eye piece.
- Now tape the edges of the eyepiece lens to one end of the tube.
- Tape the second lens, that is objective lens to the end of the paper towel tube.
- Insert the empty end of the cardboard tube into the paper towel tube.
II.Aim:To construct an electroscope.
Materials required:
- A glass jar with plastic lid-1
- Aluminium foil
Procedure:
- Cut two pieces of aluminium foil of different sizes.
- Crumple the larger piece of the foil into a ball.
- Roll the smaller piece of the foil between your palms to form a long thin rod.
- Now connect the foil ball to the end of the rod with a thin strip of foil.
- Make a hole in the middle of the plastic lid of the jar and slide the rod through it so that the ball remains above the lid.
- Bend the bottom of the rod to make an angle of 90˚
- Make a narrow strip a foil and fold it in the middle.
- Fold up about1/8 of an inch on each end of the strip to make small flaps.
- Hang the folded strip of foil evenly on the end of the rod where the L shape is framed.
- Screw the lid tightly on the jar, with the foil rod and flaps inside.
- On bringing the charged object, the flaps will spread apart.
III.Aim:To calculate the average speed of your vehicle while moving from school to home.
Materials required:
- Sheet of paper
- Pen/pencil
- Odometer
- Watch
Procedure:
- While moving out of the school campus note down the initial distance in km from the odometer of your vehicle.
- Note down the time of start of your journey.
- Similarly note down the Km shown in odometer when you reach home and note down the time as well.
- Now calculate the average speed of your vehicle using the formula given below,
Vav=(Final km – Initial km)/time interval
- Submit the report in an A4 sheet.
