Block 1, Week 8

From the Headteacher

Welcome back! I hope your half term break was an enjoyable one. We are now in Term Two but still in the first ten week block of the year. Block One ends in two weeks’ time. Parents will then receive the first pupil passport for the year and there are parent- teacher consultation sessions scheduled for 20th and 22nd November.

New Pupils: I am delighted to welcome new pupils to our school. Ella (Y6), Katie (Y3), Rueben (Rec) Andrew (Y4) Isabella (Y2) and Eloise (Rec) I hope this is the start of a positive relationship between their families and our school.

Leadership Team: While Mrs Nunn is on maternity leave, Mr Percy is acting as Assistant Head alongside Miss Gough who continues as an Assistant Head. All three of us are available should you need to speak to a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Y6 Residential: Our Y6 pupils are on the Somerset/Dorset border at the Magdalen Project for their residential trip. I joined them yesterday for the team building exercises and was pleased to see them having such a good time. I am grateful to the members of staff who agreed to give up their time to make this trip possible: Miss Flann, Mrs Naji, Miss Fricker and Mrs Offiler. The pupils and staff return on Friday at the end of the school day.

Assembly Theme: Our assembly theme for this term is ‘Integrity’. We have not yet given the children the definition of this word as we hope that they will work it out from the assemblies over the term.

Football Team: Our soccer players (except Y6) are in action for the last time of this season when they play Staverton School later today. We are still hoping for a win but we have given up hope of holding on to the League title, won last year.

Remembrance: Poppies are on sale in school should you wish to buy one. They can be bought from the office or from the two Y5 pupils selling them on the playground after school each day. We will be holding our own school Remembrance assembly next Thursday, as 11th November falls on a Saturday this year.

Children in Need Cake Sale

On Friday 10th November Holbrook will be holding a Children in Need cake sale at 3pm. We would welcome as many cake donations as possible please to the children’s kitchen to make this a truly successful fundraising event.

Suitable Warm Clothing

With the weather feeling more decidedly chilly now please can you make sure that your child comes to school with appropriate warm clothing; including both school sweatshirt or cardigan and a warm coat.

Sweatshirts or cardigans can be purchased from the office. As always all clothing needs to be marked to avoid it getting lost. Any child without a coat will have to remain inside during break and lunch times if staff feel it is too cold to play outside.

Traditional: Turkey with sausage, bacon, stuffing, peas, carrots, roast potatoes and gravy.

Vegetarian Option: Quorn Fillet, stuffing, peas, carrots, roast potatoes and gravy.

Dessert: strawberry sundae or fruit pot or yoghurt.

Please complete this slip even if your child does not want a school Christmas lunch to help us with catering figures.

Payment can be made in the usual way in the dinner money box.

Slips must be returned no later than 1st December. A slip must be completed for every child wishing to have a school meal that day otherwise we will assume that they will bring in a packed lunch as there will be no spare meals.
