HMS Assessment Committee

Committee Members Present: Sarah Drake, Rachel Jumper (chair), Hyunsook Kang, Jennifer Newquist, Mary Olle

  1. Approval of Minutes from last meeting
  2. Retention
  3. Jack Facts Information—THANK YOU Sarah!!!!!!!
  4. Based on the information from these reports we will send the survey created in Qualtrics to all HMS Freshmen in Fall of each year.
  5. ACTION: Rachel will ask Stephanie for a report of all HMS Freshmen.
  6. ACTION: Rachel will ask IR if they can run a report that shows if our students from Freshman year re-enroll in the school or if they leave SFA.
  7. We will plan to send this survey November 6-17th pending faculty approval at the October HMS faculty meeting.
  8. The committee felt that this will allow us to get some additional information on freshmen and why they choose to stay in our major.
  9. Recruitment
  10. Undecided Majors
  11. ACTION: Mary will talk with advisors for undecided majors about the best way for us to get information to students about our majors.
  12. Committee discussed Cossich talk at Faculty Meeting September 8 and based on that discussion we would like to:
  13. Add a survey question to the freshmen retention survey about why students chose SFASU. This will give us a data point as freshmen and seniors (Senior Exit Survey).
  14. Regarding students who are accepted to SFA and how many actually come to SFA:
  15. The committee will be asking to have the list of admits given to programs with our committee as well.
  16. We will keep a record of the admits as well as requesting a list each year of the HMS freshmen to see how many are coming.
  17. Information to communicate to faculty at October meeting:
  18. Show survey & let faculty know we are planning to send it out in November. Have them approve this.
  19. Let faculty know that if there are ways we can help by collecting data as we contact students who have been admitted to SFA we are happy to, but at this time the process seems to be ambassadors contact & programs follow up. Until we see how this works, we were hesitant to ask ambassadors/programs to collect data.
  20. Tell them about JackFacts (we didn’t talk about this, but I think it could be useful for programs)
  21. Share some information from JackFacts regarding where our students are coming from and that there may be room for local recruiting or Houston.
  22. October Meetingwill be October 16 from 12PM-1PM

Thank you all so much for coming to the meeting today! Here are our Meeting Minutes from today’s meeting. I feel like we covered a lot today  Please look over the minutes and make sure that I got everything covered.

I added the question to the Qualtrics survey, here is the updated link: survey is two main questions with some follow up for the second question.Also, I would like to consider at next meeting if Fall is the best time to send this since we are asking about their plans for the next academic year.

I think it will be good for us to meet prior to the October faculty meeting to organize all the information we want to present at the meeting. We will plan to meet October 16 from noon-1PM, I will send a meeting invitation as soon as I finish sending this email.
