Program For Asia

ASM International Professorship for Asia

The program enhances professional development internationally by offering an opportunity to a North American ASM member to present a course in the field of microbiological sciences at a host institution in Asia.

The applicant is an internationally recognized scientist from North America, actively involved in teaching at the secondary level.

The host is an institution from Asia with graduate students enrolled in a masters, doctoral or equivalent program, post-doctoral fellows or residents, and teaching faculty.

Award amount– Up to $5,500 per Professorship.

International Professorship

Program for Asia

The program is intended to provide microbiological expertise and resources to faculty and students throughout the world.

This program enables an institution of higher learning the resources to bring an ASM member who is scientifically recognized for his/her area to teach a highly interactive short course on a single topic in the microbiological sciences.

The program encourages and facilitates international collaborations.It is strongly recommended that the course include a hands-on component, such as a wet lab or other practical activity.

Description of Award

Award amount – Up to $5,500 per Professorship.

The applicant

A citizen residing inNorth America that is internationally recognized in his/her scientific area.

Actively involved in teaching at the post-secondary level.

Committed to international collaborations.

The Host

A higher education institution from Asia with graduate students enrolled in a masters, doctoral or equivalent program, post-doctoral fellows or residents, and teaching faculty.

An organization willing to host a visiting teaching professor and where at least 12 students will be enrolled full-time in the short course developed by the teaching professor.

Committed to maximizing the use of the course and international partnership.

Funding:Up to 65% of the funding from ASM may be utilized to defray travel expenses for the professor and co-professor, if required. Up to 50% of the $5,500 may be used for supplies and equipment that are not available at the host institution, or a local assistant, if required. No amount of the award may beused for housing and board by the visiting professor at the host institution.
