1. Job Title:Air Traffic Services Operations Assistant (ATSOA)

2. Location:Kirkwall Airport

3. Reports to:Senior Air Traffic Control Officer (SATCO)/ ATCO in charge. Receives

guidance and supervision from Duty Air Traffic Control Officer on day to

day instructions.

4. Job Purpose:To assist the ATCOs in the execution of their duties to achieve safe and

orderly flow of air traffic and the efficient running of the Aerodrome.

5. Job Content - Main Responsibilities

5.1 Responsible for records and dissemination of air traffic control data.

5.2 Acting as a communication link for the duty controller. Dealing with telephone

enquiries and taking of messages.

5.3 Carry out all those duties detailed in local Emergency Orders. Alert external agencies.

5.4 To carry out equipment checks and essential preparatory tasks prior to duty ATCO

opening the watch.

5.5 The preparation, processing and updating of flight progress strips obtained from Flight Plans or booking in/out details.

5.6 Participation with ATCOs in the training of unusual circumstances and emergencies (TRUCE).

5.7 Communicating with outside agencies on aviation related matters.

5.8 Upkeep of dynamics, diversions and cancellations, aerodrome surface and lighting

report and equipment problem reports.

5.9 Compile and transmit weather reports in accordance with CAP746 and relevant parts of

MATS 1 and 2.

5.10 Reporting of equipment unserviceability and the relevant call-out procedures to be completed.

5.11 Obtain and hold an Aerodrome Flight Information Service Licence (AFISO) in support of

the Airport ON-CALL system.

5.12 Assist the SATCO with airside safety management, bird hazard control, airfield and wildlife habitat management and the unit safety case/safety management system.

5.13 Assist the SATCO with the document control of CAA and local manuals.

5.14 Inspect and maintain ATS equipment such as Met Observers equipment and carry out checks of other equipment as required.

5.15 Undertake the replenishment of admin stores as required in the VCR.

5.16 Obtain airside safety certificate and carry out airside driving duties such as airfield inspections as required.

5.17 Maintain liaison with other airfield departments.

5.18 Provide flight briefing service.

5.19 Support the company bio-diversity action plan.
