High School Summer Camp
This July, on the Dartmouth campus, ISTS is once again offering a free summer camp for high school students. The program will explore current interdisciplinary research in cyber security and privacy.
Adam Goldstein, IT Security Engineer with Peter Kiewit Computing Services at Dartmouth College, will leadthis year's camp. The program for the camp is based on a scaled-down version of ISTS' intensive two-weekSecure Information Systems Mentoring and Training (SISMAT)program that is funded by the National Science Foundation. SISMAT was established at Dartmouth six years ago to train rising college juniors and seniors in information security.
The program will mix in lectures withhands-on and interactive activities, augmented with field trips and faculty guest speakers. Dartmouth graduate students and undergraduates will help lead activities and act as mentors and members of the College's computing services staff will provide a "behind the scenes" look at security. In keeping with the outreach mission of both ISTS and the National Science Foundation, participants are requested to complete an outreach project of their own design to spread the word about cyber security.
There is no charge for this program. Applications are dueApril 22, 2013. In addition to the application, the student must write 1-2 paragraphs explaining why they’re interested in computer security, and have a teacher provide a recommendation.
