1Game Analysis

This is the overview section. Fill out the sections below.

1.1Name of the Game

Put the cool name of the game here. You can use a “working name” at this time if you haven’t settled on the “real” name.

1.2Game Concept

Two or three sentences clearly stating the overall concept of the game. Olympic Sports? Shooter? Yet another WW2 game?

1.3Game Goals

Three to five goals of the game – all future decisions will be measured against these goals. These are marketing goals, for example, like these (but be more realistic than these are).

Sell 150,000 units.

Create a new Barbie-doll FPS sub-genre.

Build brand awareness of this new sub-genre.

Open up a market for this genre in Korea and sell 20,000.

Be ready to ship for the PlayStation 17 rollout.

1.4Game Information

Describe the genre, type, style, etc. of the game in more detail, to let the reader (who is probably a publisher) form an idea of where, exactly, this game fits in within the larger game market.

1.5License/Brand Analysis

Are you doing a game based on a licensed title? If so, indicate how you will do the treatment of the license or brand elements in the game. How do they relate to the overall intent of the game?

FILL THIS SECTION IF YOU PLAN TO BUILD ON AN EXISTING TITLE OR CONCEPT, OTHERWISE SAY SOMETHING LIKE “NO LICENSING”.

1.6Target Audience

Who the game is aimed for? Be precise about identifying your target audience (very few games are for “everybody”).

1.7Competitor’s Analysis

Provide an analysis of the competition. Write a statement of how your game will be differentiated from those others.

FILL THIS IN WITH INFORMATION YOU HAVE ABOUT SIMILAR GAMES TO THE ONE YOU HAVE IN MIND.

2Game Design

2.1Expanded Game Concept

Two to three paragraphs - explain the game concept in somewhat more detail.

2.2Game Structure

Describe modes, levels, etc., continuous loading, open world. How does the player make progress through the game?

2.3Gameplay

Two to three sentences defining the core gameplay. KEEP THIS SHORT. Identify the unique gameplay mechanism that your game is offering. This is basically is like what marketers call a “unique selling proposition,” or USP.

2.4Expanded Gameplay – Sixty Seconds of Typical Gameplay

Walkthrough of game play experience - two to three paragraphs.

THIS IS THE PLACE WHERE YOU REALLY TELL THE STORY OF WHAT A MINUTE OF GAME PLAY WILL FEEL LIKE FOR THE PLAYER. YOUR BEST WRITING BELONGS HERE!

3Game Features

3.1Key Game Features

Back of the box features – provide seven to ten in total.

IF YOU PICKED UP THE ATTRACTIVE PACKAGING AT GameStop AND READ THE BACK OF THE BOX, WHAT WOULD YOU SEE?

These should be “action” statements, beginning with strong present tense verbs. “Kill 48 varieties of zombies and evil undead!”

4Summary

Provide a closing summary of the idea. This is a good place to close with something memorable.

5Team Members

List everyone on your team here. I will remove this section for the publicly posted version!

Be sure to edit the Headers and Footers. Get rid of the default “Radical Entertainment” material and put in your own great logo.

In the Headers and Footers enter the Name of your game, a cool name for your team, the date of the document, and its Revision. For Revision enter ORIGINAL, REVISED, or FINAL, as appropriate, as we go through the revision process.

However, do not put the names of the members of team in the Headers and Footers... at all. Those belong on this page and this page only. I will be stripping away this page so that we can all review these anonymously.

You can doll up the rest of this document with sketches, screen shots or whatever you think helps, but don’t get too carried away trying to create special artwork just for this.

Remember this is a “pitch” document, designed to convince a publisher to give you the green light (and therefore the money) to build your great game.
