Late nominations will be taken on the morning but swimmers may incur a 50m handicap at the starter’s discretion.
Swimmers must be on the beach in front of theEsplanade Aquavue Café (beside the tennis courts) Torquay, no later than 7.30 am for registration and briefing.
BBQ breakfast will be available for purchase after the swim at the Torquay Surf Club.
Swim commences at 8 am sharp.

Age Conditions
All entrants must be aged 18 or over. Age is determined as at 31 December 2013.
Liability Release
By nominating to participate in this swim, I authorize the Hervey Bay Surf Life Saving Club(HBSLSC) to take whatever action is deemed necessary in the event of an emergency and accept responsibility for any and all costs arising from such action.The disclaimer regarding the risks associated with ocean swimming which follows thisis required to be signed on the day,.

Terms and Conditions
1. GENERAL
a. no wetsuits or seal suits are permitted,
b. in the event of difficulties in the water swimmers are to raise their arm vertically and await assistance from surf life savers
c. swimmers are to swim to seaward of all markers as indicated at the race briefing
d. in the event of inclement weather or unsafe conditions as determined by the Race Organiser, the race may be amended or cancelled, if so the entry fee is not refundable
e. all swimmers are to wear the supplied swim-cap during all stages of the event as well as the allocated code on each shoulder
f. all swimmers are to assist a swimmer in difficulty until relieved by surf life savers, failure to assist will result in disqualification
g. individual swimmers must swim the full course without outside assistance, course and assistance determined by Race Organiser
h. swim aids including flippers, hand paddles, wet suits etc are not to be used
INDEMNITY WAIVER
SWIMMING IN THE OCEAN IS DANGEROUS due to the lack of control over all types of craft that operate on the ocean, including powered, sailing and manpowered craft, as well as the unknown behaviours of sea creatures, including dolphins, sharks, stingrays, stone-fish, sea snakes, sea-urchins, marine stingers and jelly-fish. All entrants in the Torquay 1000 Ocean Swim will participate at their own risk. I formally accept and acknowledge the extent of the dangers inherent in OpenOcean swimming races.
Swimming in the ocean is physically and psychologically demanding. I attest and verify that I am physically fit, a competent long distance swimmer in the ocean and have no current or recurrent illnesses or injuries that may interfere with my ability to safely navigate the open ocean swimming course established by the organisers of the Torquay 1000 Ocean Swim.
I attest and verify that I am physically fit for an open ocean swim. I have trained for the event and my physical condition has been verified by a licensed medical practitioner as sufficient to cope with the rigors of an open ocean swim.
It is a condition of acceptance of my entry that the Hervey Bay Surf Life Saving Club Inc., its management committee, members and agents and the Torquay 1000 Ocean Swim event managers and sponsors are absolved from all liability howsoever arising from injury or damage howsoever caused (whether fatal or otherwise) arising out of participation in the Torquay 1000 Ocean Swim or in any way whatsoever due to negligent act, breach of duty, default and/or omission on the part of the Hervey Bay Surf Life Saving Club Inc. its management committee, members and agents and the Torquay 1000 Ocean Swim event managers and sponsors.
Any person entering the Torquay 1000 Ocean Swim is only allowed to do so on the distinct understanding that they do so at their own risk.
I acknowledge that if I sustain an injury or illness whilst participating in the Torquay 1000 Ocean Swim I give my authority for, surf lifesavers, qualified first aid personnel, paramedical staff and/or medical staff to perform and administer emergency medical attention and treatment, as they deem necessary for my well-being.
I agree to compete with a spirit of fair play and sportsmanship as determined by the Race Organiser. I agree to abide by the decisions of officials and event managers of the Torquay 1000 Ocean Swim.
