HERTS GIRLS SQUASH Newsletter…August 2012

I hope you all had a great 2011-12 season and congratulations to all those who gained individual or team success. This newsletter looks back on last year as well as looking forward to the fast-approaching start of the new season.

Many girls have only recently started playing; others have played for several years and are now representing their county and clubs (in both junior and adult teams) as well as taking part in national tournaments. Congratulations to the 9 juniors who have national rankings, the U-13 and U-15 teams who represented Herts so positively in the inter-county matches and all those who took part in the Girls’ squash morning at Nuffield, St Albans and graded tournaments at Radlett and Harpenden.

Next season Herts will be fielding U-13, U-15 and U-17 teams in the England squash inter-county competition. Please look at the fixture list in this newsletter and try to be available to represent your county!! I have also included some of the local tournaments, as well as hopefully being enjoyable, all results are fed into the county rankings; don’t forget that entering any bronze status event organised by England Squash enables you to have an England ranking!!

The County Championships are in September so please try to play as much as you can so you’re not rusty.. the first county ranking list will be based on your results in September. Assisted by Steve Lloyd, I will be running a squash camp in the afternoons at Radlett on Aug 28th to Aug 30th and there is a mixed charity graded tournament on September 2th at Radlett to blow the cobwebs away!!

If you need any information please call Julian Craxton on 07711 748557.

Stage Two...22-01-2012 Surrey

As expected the Herts girls faced a tough Stage Two group and only just missed out on qualifying for the National Finals. Having lost 1-4 to last year’s winners, Gloucestershire, and beaten Avon 4-1, it all came down to the Surrey match. Having beaten Surrey in October it was always going to be more difficult with Surrey fielding the current (July) England number 1. The Herts girls all played superbly but finally went down 2-3 overall. Thanks go to Mark Luscombe who was the Team Manager for the season. With only one girl moving up to the next age group prospects look good for the 2012-13 campaign.
