Who qualifies to be a Hero?
For this project, we will define a hero as someone who has overcome adversity to make a positive difference in the world. In selecting a person to research, you should select someone you admire, someone who embodies the qualities of a hero. You should plan on becoming the class expert on this person. It might be helpful to consider people who fit into these categories:
Politicians PhysiciansAttorneys
Inventors AthletesEntertainers
Artists AuthorsMusicians
Teachers Business PeopleActivists
Scientists Religious LeadersExplorers
You need to choose your historical hero for research by the next time we meet for class. On that day we will be signing up for heroes to research. This will be on a first-come, first- served basis. If someone else signs up for a person you wanted to research, you will have to choose someone else. If you have not chosen a person to research by the next class period, I will choose someone for you. I also reserve the right to veto your choice of subject if it does not meet with our definition of a hero.
Below is a list of historical heroes for possible consideration. You are not limited to these people; it is merely a list of suggestions. None of these people were perfect in your research of your chosen subject you will find faults as well as strengths. However, each has effected a positive change in the world. Here is the list, in no particular order:

Hero Research Project Checklist
Upon completing the project, you will be asked to present to the class; therefore, you will receive both a content grade and a presentation grade.
Prezi Timeline:
Using the presentation webtool Prezi.com, you can create the project your own way, choosing the way you move from event to event through zooming and frames. Follow the separate “guide” I will give you for creating a Prezi to complete the following tasks:
____Include a brief biography section (15-20 bullet points) that gives background information
on your hero. Break up the biographical information into the following categories:
___Early life
___Becoming a hero
___Accomplishments and later life
____Include 7-10 events in your hero’s life that prove that they are indeed a hero (see your
“Traits of a Hero” worksheet if necessary)
____Include at least 3 quotes from your hero that support their heroic qualities; they can
either be grouped together or spread throughout the project
____Include a section that explains 3 similarities that your hero and Beowulf have in common
____Include yourself on the last “leg” of the timeline, with a brief description of how your hero
has impacted your life
____Include at least 5 images (no more than 10 images) total
