Job Description

Job Title: ICT Technician

Grade: Kent Range £16,794 to £18,471 (pro rata)

Hours: 28 hours per week – term time only

Core purpose:

To provide an efficient and effective ICT technical support to the staff and pupils of Herne C E Infant & Nursery School

Line Manager:

Headteacher & ICT Subject Leader

Responsibilities:

1.0  Infrastructure

1.1  To install, configure and test new ICT equipment and network systems, including hardware, peripherals and software according to manufacturer instructions and ensure that they operate to a maximum potential

1.2  To liaise with appropriate outside agencies where appropriate.

1.3  To assist the ICT Leader in the appropriate deployment of hardware around the school.

1.4  To manage staff and pupil accounts, allocation of software, user space and printer credits.

1.5  To provide prioritised technical support and advice as required in school.

1.6  To carry out regular “housekeeping” to ensure the server storage is used effectively.

1.7  To ensure the internet connectivity is maintained.

1.8  To ensure the smooth running of the school’s network (curriculum and administration)

1.9  To liaise with external suppliers for the repair of equipment under warranty or maintenance contract.

1.10  To maintain audio and visual equipment such as projectors, interactive whiteboards and sound systems.

1.11  To maintain the school website in collaboration with Senior Management and the ICT Leader

2.0 Health & Safety

2.1  Be part of a group to reinforce e-safety in line with school policy when training and working with teachers and pupils

2.2  To be aware of all matters relating to health and safety and to implement safe working practices.

2.3  To administer and monitor basic health & safety procedures

2.4  To carry out audit checks including warranties and licences.

2.5  To maintain an inventory of equipment and take responsibility for ordering of stock as appropriate in line with the schools’ purchasing procedures.

2.6  To work with the ICT leader to develop ideas and processes to ensure the security and integrity of the ICT systems are maintained.

2.7  To ensure virus protection system is adhered to.

2.8  To maintain the firewall protection.

2.9  To implement the school’s network and internet security policy.

2.10  To ensure that copyright and data protection laws are upheld.

3.0 Curriculum

3.1  To work directly with the ICT leaders to best support the use of ICT in school and complete work on various projects.

3.2  To work alongside the ICT leader in the implementation of a whole school ICT policy.

3.3  To provide support for teachers and pupils in the use of ICT across the curriculum. Working with them in class and providing technical advice to staff.

3.4  To set up/prepare classes to use mobile technology and ICT suite.

3.5  To provide prioritised technical support and advice as required across the school.

3.6  To provide in house training to other staff as appropriate.

4.0  General

4.1  To undertake available training opportunities and demonstrate a commitment to continuous development.

4.2  To keep abreast of new developments in hardware and software.

4.3  To demonstrate a willingness to work flexibly, sometimes outside of normal core hours, in response to service demands as agreed with the school’s Leadership team.

4.4  To perform such other tasks as may reasonably be required by the ICT Leader.

5.0  Responsibilities

5.1  Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to the appropriate person.

In order to deliver the service effectively, a degree of flexibility is needed and the post holder may be required to perform work as delegated by the school’s Leadership Team not specifically referred to above. Such duties however, will fall within the scope of the post, at the appropriate grade.
