Learning Support Assistant
Outline Job Description

The work of Teaching Assistants at Herne Bay High School is highly valued as it supports students with Special Needs to access a broad and balanced curriculum. We provide Break, Lunch and After School Clubs where we offer help with homework, extra reading support or the chance to go over work that might not have been understood. We operate a mentoring system whereby students are able to benefit from a link with a member of the support team.

Support staff can be called upon to work across the whole curriculum but we actively encourage Teaching Assistants to gain or develop expertise in areas of particular interest. Staff are encouraged to attend relevant courses both to assist them in their work and to enhance their own development. Support staff are linked closely to departments to facilitate a greater consistency in the delivering of support.

Anyone applying will need to demonstrate the ability to be adaptable and to work using their own initiative. Whilst relevant qualifications are desirable, they are not a pre-requisite, rather a willingness to learn and a wish to provide sympathetic support to a range of students. Expertise in any specific curriculum area should be mentioned in your application along with any relevant experience that could be brought to the job.

Teaching Assistants are contracted for a negotiated amount of hours, working between 8.40am and 3.00pm, term time only.
