The club reserve the right, without prior notice to alter any of these arrangements should he weather or any other circumstances warrant.

RULES:

The race will be run in accordance with the current BCU Marathon Rules, as per the 2017

Canoe Sprint & Marathon Racing Handbook. ALL PADDLERS MUST DECLARE THEIR SINGLES RANKING WHEN PADDLING DOUBLES. Paddlers ranked in divisions 1, 2, or 3 MUST race the 12 mile course.

SAFETY:

Buoyancy aids are compulsory for all 7, 8, 9 division paddlers, whether in a K2 or K1 and Lightning paddlers. Team Leaders should decide if paddlers under 16 years of age in the

higher divisions should wear a buoyancy aid.

The Race Organiser has the final say on who has to wear a buoyancy aid.

PRIZES:

First 3 placed in all divisions. (Where there are sufficient entries).

FEES:

Div 1 – 9 £8.00 per seat; Lightning £3.00; Late entry fee £2.00. Current BCU membership

Cards are to be shown when booking in. Failure to do so will result in a further £5.00 levy

for a BCU day Event Ticket. Rule 12, b) applies to Event Tickets.

REFRESHMENTS:

Refreshments will be provided free of charge for all competitors after the race.

Hot and cold food and drinks will also be on sale for paddlers & spectators.

Further Information

RULES:

·  The race will be run in accordance with the current BCU Marathon Rules in the Canoe Racing Handbook 2017

·  Division 1 to 6 ranked paddlers must give proof of comprehensive B.C.U. (or WCA/SCA/CANI) membership before or on the day of the race. A competitor doing a marathon race such as this for the first time may purchase on the day an event ticket for a fee of £5.00 and complete the necessary declaration form. Without doing either of these they will not be allowed to race.

·  Division 7 to 9 ranked paddlers must give proof of comprehensive B.C.U. (or WCA/SCA/CANI) membership before or on the day of the race or buy an event ticket costing £5.00 and complete the necessary declaration form. Without doing so they will not be allowed to race. These event tickets can only be used once per season.

·  All boats to be fitted with regulation size white vertical number plate and annotated using black insulation tape.

Participation:

·  Please make sure that you indicate clearly the category you are competing in as well as the division.

·  Juniors must be aged under 18 on 1st January 2017

·  Veterans must be aged over 35 on 1st January 2017

·  Kayak/Canoe racing is an “Assumed risk” activity. Participants and people with Parental/legal responsibility for a participant should be aware of and accept these risks. Participants should accept responsibility for their own actions and involvement.

·  To the extent permitted by applicable laws, Hereford Kayak Club accept no liability for any direct, indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss or damage to anybody (whether arising in contract, tort including negligence or otherwise) arising out of or in connection with any of its activities except for personal injury or death of any person caused by negligence

·  Hereford Kayak Club may take and use pictures of the event and individual competitors to promote the activities of the Club and the sport. This will be done in accordance with The British Canoe Union Guidelines ‘For Use of Photographic & Filming Equipment’.
