Homework for November 4-November 10

Due Thursday, November 10th

Here is what we are learning about this week:

Math: Subtraction with regrouping (breaking apart a ten to make 10 ones before subtracting)

Reading: Review and learning how to spell the days of the week

Writing: Beginning personal narrative (We didn’t get to it last week.)

Social Studies: Producers & Consumers

Dear Parents/Guardians,

November has proven to be a very busy time and I expect the fast pace to continue with all of the odd schedules. Please remember that this Friday there will be no school due to Veteran’s Day, which means that this packet will be due on Thursday. I have shortened the packet a bit since it is due a day sooner. Your child will get the next homework packet (for the week of Nov. 11-18th) on Thursday (10th). Fortunately, this week we will be reviewing some of the skills that your child has learned already this year, so there will not be a phonics or reading test for this week. However, quite a few students did not take their time on the last reading test (from Oct. 27th) so students that scored 80% will be given the option to retake or not and students scoring below 80% will be required to retake the test this Wednesday. Students that scored above 80% will be given an alternative activity during that testing time. All original scores were recorded in the grading system (PowerSchools), but will be overridden if your child does better on the retake. If you are not aware, you can access all of your child’s grades through our online grading system. You simply need to present your ID to the office staff and ask them to set up/give you a username and password for your child’s account. From there you can see all of the grades as they are posted. Your child’s grades are always written on their tests as well, but I know those don’t always make it home in one piece. As always, feel free to contact me with any questions.

Thanks,

Mrs. Flores

Phonics Skill/Pattern

This week we will be practicing/learning how to spell all of the days of the week, as well as a few words that students have struggled with throughout the year. It is important for your child to learn how to spell these words because most of them will be used throughout his/her life, however they will not be tested. Please help your child to practice these words at home and we will be working on them at school as well.
