Welcome to Mrs. Atkins’ 3rd Grade Class! I am looking forward to a wonderful school year!

I feel that communication is key for a successful year for your child. Please let me know if you have any comments, questions, or concerns. You can contact me at or 773-4150 ext.2155. During the school day, I will not be available to immediately answer my extension/e-mail during the school day but will get back to you as soon as possible. If you need to leave a message for your child or need to contact me immediately, please direct your call to the front office. You can also find information regarding my class on my school website. The district website is Select Cromer Elementary on the school tab on the upper left hand side, click staff pages and then click the link for Atkins.

Here is some more information on my classroom policies:

Absences:Please contact the absence line at 773-4159 if your child will be absent.

Birthdays:If you wish to send in something for your child’s birthday, you may do so on their birthday (or if it falls on the weekend/holiday, you may choose before or after). For those students with summer birthdays, we will celebrate those birthdays the last week of school. In following the district’s wellness initiative program, our school is trying to limit the amount of sugary food rewards given at school. If your child would like to bring in items to share for their birthday, we are asking that only non-edible items be sent in.Instead of food for birthday celebrations, non-edible items like individual pencils, erasers, or bookmarks, etc. would be great to send in to share with classmates. In order to avoid hurt feelings, please do not send birthday invitations to school to be handed out.

Classroom Management:My classroom management focuses on positive behavior support. There will be individual, small group, and class incentives. In my class, there will be a ticket incentive program. Students will be given tickets for making positive choices. Students will not have tickets taken away, however if they are making poor choices, they will not have the opportunity to earn tickets during that time. Students will earn pod points for their behavior in their pod. Students will earn tickets for being the winning pod of the day. As a class, the students will be able to receive a class reward based on the compliments they receive from school staff. They can also earn extra recess based on classroom behavior. Students will also be able to receive ROARS(Respect Others, Act Responsible, and Safe) tickets from any school staff and be entered in weekly school drawings.

Dismissal: School is dismissed at 3:20 Monday-Thursday. Fridays are early dismissal and students will be dismissed at 12:25. Please let me know if your child will have a change to the way they are getting home.

Homework:Students will have a Language Arts packet that will be handed out on Monday and will be due on Friday. Students will also be expected to read their A.R. book for 20 minutes Monday-Thursday. Information on Math homework will be going home soon.

Lunch:3rd Grade recess will be from 12:00-12:20 followed by lunch from 12:20-12:40. On Fridays, recess/lunch will be from 11:15-11:45.

Parent Volunteers: Please let me know if you would like to volunteer in the classroom, when you are available, and how you would like to help. There will also be opportunities for parents to volunteer for field trip chaperones.
