Here is some information about getting started at the VA.

Fingerprinting- (If you have not had your fingerprints completed with the VA) Call Eileen Chandler to schedule an appointment, 916-843-9069. Bring a completed SF-87. Location: Building 707.

Vehicle Registration Decal- Go to the VA Police Window (Bldg. 650, 1st floor). Bring a Valid Driver’s License, Vehicle Registration & License Plate#and Valid Insurance card. Complete the attached VA Employee Vehicle Registration form and bring with you. You will get a proximity access badge form from the Education Office upon your first day of rotation.

VA Computer Access Codes—Resident paperwork, VHA Mandatory Training for Trainees (via TMS System), and fingerprinting must be complete and returned to Andrea Lecuyer and Inkyung Walker in the Education Department at the beginning of the academic year or at least 3/4 weeks prior to rotation date at the VA. Call/Email the Education Department and/or service to verify your computer access codes have been requested in the system and ready prior to your arrival. Please Note: Failure to do so may result in delay of codes and affect patient care.

Disabled Accounts- Please contact Andrea Lecuyer at 916-843-9155 or Inkyung Walker at 916-843-7022 in the Education Department for further instructions.

Parking—Designated VA parking areas are labeled with signs, please avoid parking in designated patient parking areas, VA police will issue citations. Additional parking can be found in the Blood Source lot across the street from the Mather VA. If parking in the Blood Source lot, you can only park in the spaces marked for the “VA”, and not in the Blood Source spaces; Violators are subject to tow. After hours, weekends and holidays, all parking is considered general parking, so you can park in patient parking at these times. If you are parked in patient only spaces overnight, you must move your vehicle NLT 0800 hours (8:00AM) on normal business days. If you find yourself leaving late in the evening, you can call the VA Police (366-5401) and request an escort to your vehicle.

Proximity (ACCESS) Card: The form must be completed and turned into the VA Police, todetermineif you will need a proximity card. You will get the Proximity access card formfrom the Education Office. Please contact Andrea Lecuyer 916-843-9155 or Inkyung Walker 916-843-7022.

PIV Badges- All trainees are required to obtain a non-PIV Badge which is issued by HR. You will need to be sponsored by your VA service department (Education Office) and fingerprinted by VA Human Resources Office within at least the last 120 days. You will need to have 2 forms of ID, one of which must be a picture ID and theymust match identically (example: State DL has first, middle, and last name, your 2nd form of ID must include this also).

Learner Perceptions Survey (LPS)—after your rotation block at the VA, complete the LPS survey. LPS results provide the Education Department with information in regards to areas that may need improvement or areas that we are doing well in. LPS is opened from September to June every year. It takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. Link to survey:
