Brief Description of my Professional Characteristics
I am an agronomist graduated from the Faculty of Agronomy, Universidad de la Republica, Montevideo, URUGUAY in 1971, specialized in livestock and field crops. Later I had the opportunity to pursue graduate studies in the USA where I earned both a M.Sc. (1978) and a Ph.D. degree (1983) in agricultural economics from TexasA&MUniversity, College Station, Texas, USA. Thus, I spent more than six years living and studying in the USA. In fact, my eldest daughter was born in Bryan, Texas, in 1979.
I served as a public officer in my home country, where I worked for the Ministry of Agriculture as an agricultural extensionist (6 years), and in more recent years as an adviser in the economics area to the office of the Minister of Agriculture (5 years). Also I served as Secretary of Development for the State Government of Soriano (5 years).
In the private sector I held a position as an Assistant Professor at Colegio de Postgraduados, Chapingo, Estado de Mexico, Mexico, teaching economics to graduate students at the Master level (2 years). After this experience I worked for International Research Institutions like CIAT and CIMMYT for almost 6 years. Half of this period I worked in Brazil in conjunction with EMBRAPA (a research public institution).
I was also an agricultural private consultant for several years (7 in total) in my country where I interacted with several private institutions as well as with the Interamerican Development Bank (BID).
Only recently I have been working as a professional translator since I enjoy and feel comfortable in handling the English language. Thus, I am confident to meet the challenge to accept both short term and long term projects which require converting information from English to Spanish and also the reverse.
Based in my background and experience, my rates for this type of jobs (projects) will be in the range of $ 0.05 – $ 0.06 US dollar per word, but negotiable.
