October News Letter

THANK YOU EVERYONE for coming down to Panguitch, on Thursday night it started out with dinner and conversation around the fire ring. We had several club members came down early for the Friday ride. We went up LimeKiln Canyon, and then rode the Freemont Trail. Joe took us to one of Butch Cassidy’s old hideouts, where we stopped for lunch. We continued along the Freemont Trail across Highway 12, over to Tropic Reservoir. Then we rode to the top of Proctor Canyon, to the overlook what a beautiful site, you can see for miles in all directions. For there we rode down to Hatch, then back to the Hitchin Post Campground. Some of us continued on to Casto Canyon for an evening ride. Casto Canyon is one of the top 10 scenic rides in the United States. After everyone returned we went to the local restaurant for dinner and have a wonderful meal.

On Saturday, the ride started out a little soggy, we went up Dog Valley, about half way up some went back because of the weather, those of us that continued the rain finally subsided, and the skies turned a pretty shade of blue. Then we went to another of Butch Cassidy’s childhood homes on the outskirts of Circleville. Then we went to Circleville, some us went to Butch Cassidy’s restaurant and the rest of use went to the Circleville Café. After lunch we saw Butch Cassidy’s winter home in town. Then we continued on to the Freemont Trail, through Smith Canyon we started up Sanford Creek were we stopped to take a break at this point the skies were threatening rain from 3 directions, so we turned back and rode across the flats back to Panguitch. Everyone got dried off and then we had our potluck in the clubhouse at the Hitchin Post, as always Randy and Jodie were wonderful hosts. We had a great time, lots of food and great conversations and lots of laughs.

Special thanks to Joe Orme and Waylon and Shirley King taking the time to show us more of the great sites that are in there great valley.
