Application for Fall 2018 and Spring 2019

Scholarship Descriptions

The purpose of the scholarship is to increase the number of people with the knowledge and skills to work with and on behalf of older people. The scholarship provides financial support for undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing a certificate focused on gerontology. Scholarships may be used to cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, and room and board.

Scholarships are for one year. Students may reapply for a second or third year of support; however, they will receive lowest priority in the review of applicants.

Application Criteria

The applicant must:

 Have a 3.0 or higher GPA for the two most recent semesters.

 Demonstrate a commitment to the field of gerontology

 Be admitted to the Undergraduate Certificate in Healthy Aging or Graduate Certificate Program in Applied Gerontology program at UW-Milwaukee at the time of application.[1]

Application process

The applicant must:

 Submit two (2) letters of recommendation; at least one that comments on academic potential. Recommendation letters must be on letterhead and signed by the person making the recommendation.

 Submit an essay that addresses the applicant’s unique characteristics, focusing on experience in and commitment to the field of aging.

 Submit his/her most recent transcript. For current UWM students, unofficial transcripts are acceptable. You may request unofficial transcripts through your PAWS account up to once per day by selecting "Other Academics" in your Student Center.

Deadlines

Applications must be received in the Center for Aging and Translational Research by Friday, March 2, 2018. Awards will be announced no later than March 31st.

If I am awarded this scholarship, I understand and affirm the following:

  • I understand that I forfeit the remainder of any scholarship award if I suspend my studies.
  • I understand that I must complete at least six credits that meet requirements for the certificate during the fall 2018 or spring 2019 semesters. If I need six or less credits to complete the certificate, I understand that I must complete those credits during the funding period.
  • I understand that one-half of the scholarship will be disbursed prior to the start of the fall 2018 semester and the second half will be disbursed prior to the start of the spring 2019 semester and only if I have met the requirements for the scholarship.
