Healthy Living Clubs Buddy Volunteer

VOLUNTEER ROLE DESCRIPTION

Purpose of Role

To support the Healthy Living Club Co-ordinator to make sure the Club is fun, beneficial and runs smoothly. To encourage participants to take part in the Clubs activities and to motivate participants to take up further activities outside of the Healthy Living Clubs. To help the sustainability of the project after the contract with Age UK ends.

Role of the Volunteer

  • To encourage participants to take part in exercises and other activities
  • To assist participants with the completion of questionnaires
  • To motivate participants to take up further activities outside of the Healthy Living Clubs
  • To support the Community Peer Leader in the smooth running of the centre

Skills and attributes needed

  • An interest in helping people in later life to lead healthier lifestyles
  • Patienceand the ability to empathise with people in later life
  • Good communication skillsand the ability to motivate
  • Strong administration
  • Goodco-ordination skills
  • Flexibility with volunteering hours
  • Willingness to undertake training

As a volunteer we would ask you to:

  • Undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service check
  • Adhere to and sign the Age UK East Sussex confidentiality policy and equal opportunities policy, maintaining discretion and confidentiality at all times
  • Be reliable and conscientious in your role
  • Treat all participants with dignity and respect
  • Promote choice and independent decision making by people in later life
  • Participate in relevant training and one to one supervision with the coordinator

As a volunteer we will offer you:

  • An induction and initial training
  • Ongoing training relevant to your role
  • Experience and reference after six months’ volunteering
  • Regular support and communication
  • Appreciation of your commitment and time given to Age UK East Sussex
  • An opportunity to meet other volunteers socially and for training
  • Reimbursement of out of pocket expenses
  • Appropriate insurance cover – to protect you whilst you are acting on behalf of Age UK East Sussex
