Summary:This position is responsible for managing and organizing the delivery of general health services to students; overseeing the work of the Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, and Associate Registered Nurse staff; consulting with other health professionals and school staff. Additionally, the Health Services Supervisor develops health policy and procedures; directs activities for school health services staff; and provides training education programs for school nurses as needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Establish and monitor pupil heath record systems
- Monitor functions delegated to health services personnel
- Develop policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal laws
- Recruit, interview and make hiring recommendations for health services personnel
- Assist Registered Nurses in writing Individual Health Plans
- Assist with third-party billing
- Advise Student Services Director regarding appropriate level of health care needed for some students
- Arrange inservice training for health services personnel
- Monitor equipment needed and budget requests from individual buildings
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with community health partners
- Update health service procedures including blood borne pathogen procedures on an annual basis
- Identify need for and provide training to health services personnel
- Consult with and provide input for committees that share responsibility for wellness and health(i.e. health and safety committee, emergency preparedness committee, etc.)
- Plan and organize orientation and inservice training for health services personnel
- Supervise and collaboratively evaluate health services personnel
- Perform other duties as assigned
Work Environment:
ISD 622 is a community collaborative dedicated toeducatingandempoweringall learners to excel in our changing world. As Health Services Supervisorin our learning environment, the individual will primarily work indoors in anoffice environment. The Health Services Supervisor is regularly exposed to contagious diseases of students and may have frequent contact with blood and body fluids. The employee is regularly exposed to chemicals used in carrying out nursing duties. The Health Services Supervisor frequently drives to the various schools to monitor the program and offer consultation to staff nurses.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN)
- Minnesota Registered Nurse License (RN)
- Minnesota School Nurse Licensure (LSN)
- At least two years’ experience in public or community health nursing
- Knowledge of and/or experience working within a school setting
- Experience with supervision, evaluation, and hiring of Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses
- Experience with conflict resolution
- Effective collaboration skills including strong interpersonal, communication, organization, and technology skills
- Ability to work with teams and accomplish identified goals
- Ability to remain calm in emergencies
- Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality of students and staff
- Good assessment skills and tact in relaying information to students and staff
- Ability and willingness to follow school rules and policies
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Nursing
- Prior school nursing experience
- Public Health Certification (PHN)
- Computer and data management proficiency
- Understanding of Special Education processes
- Experience with staff development
