Summary:Responsible for performing intake and patient service functions to optimize the patient’s quality of care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provides a centralized intake and patient service function in order to gather pertinent patient, clinical and financial information to optimize the patient’s quality of care.
  2. Communicates with referral sources, patients and their family members to educate on HSNT services.
  3. Processes patient registration information by performing various duties including insurance verifications, determining the coordination of benefits and working with various internal sources to understand HSNT’s financial assistance policies and effectively communicate it to patients.
  4. Interacts with other HSNT staff to ensure all patients advance through the registration process and are scheduled to be seen in a timely manner.
  5. Responsible for accurately entering all patient information into Electronic Health Record (eHR)system.
  6. May collect payments.
  7. Coordinates hospital referrals.
  8. Performs monthly customer service follow up calls to ensure a high level of patient satisfaction.
  9. Places outbound calls to potential patients.
  10. Responds to inquiries from the community to enhance the visibility of HSNT and generate an increasing patient base.
  11. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with Physicians, Case Managers, Managed Care Organizations, and other pertinent payer/referral sources.
  12. Maintains and protects the confidentiality of patient information at all times, enforces patient rights regarding privacy, personal property, and grievances.
  13. Communicates timely and accurately with referral source and other HSNT departments to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care contributes to the total plan of care.
  14. Participates in quality initiatives as needed.

The Patient Services Coordinators’ role within the organization is tomaintain department philosophy, goals and objectives, standards, policies and procedures and interprets these to ensure high-quality care. All team members are expected to treat one another with mutual respect, professionalism, and accountability.

EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIP

The Patient Services Coordinators’ role within the community is to represent HSNT in providing outstanding customer service to patients during the registration process. Client confidentiality, acceptance and respect for various ethnic and cultural backgrounds, and appropriate and effective communication skills are paramount concerns for this position.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Associates degree or equivalent experience; bachelors’ a plus.
  • Minimum 1 year previous full time experience in a front office role within a medical environment
  • Knowledge of medical terminology including previous intake experience; scheduling and payment collections
  • Ability to triage to determine level of urgency in scheduling
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) preferred
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Knowledge of 3rd party reimbursement programs.
  • Strong computer skills (including familiarity with electronic health record systems)
  • Strongly developed attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt easily to changing environments.
  • Ability to multi-task in a busy environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must have proven skills in working independently, self-motivated and goal oriented.
