The Health & Safety Coordinator will develop and implement programs and strategies to ensure that the highest safety standards are in place.

Safety is our driving force. The Health & Safety Coordinator will be empowered to spearhead our company-wide Health & Safety program. The successful candidate will be involved in all stages of Health & Safety, from assessing the current situation, identifying opportunities for improvement, creating programs and implementing solutions across ten facilities.

This role is critical to the success of our Health & Safety program. The Health & Safety Coordinator must be a self-starter, working with diverse teams and participating in JHSC meetings to earn trust and buy-in while engaging with employees.

Job Description

  • Determine health and safety goals and strategies, ensuring they meet all fiscal, strategic and legislative requirements
  • Develop and review policies and procedures ensuring all health and safety measures are metand continuously enforced
  • Ensure all governmental legislation is fully adhered to, at all times, within each location
  • Review all health and safety reports analyzing compiled data to determine areas of improvement
  • Assist in conducting inspections of the workplace
  • Manage non-compliance offenses of a high level
  • Document, monitor and implement changes, to the Fire Safety, Emergency Response and Emergency Evacuation Plans
  • Direct planning projects aimed at integrating health and safety activities into production efforts
  • Manage investigation and reporting of health and safety incidents and hazard assessments
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of legislative changes that are upcoming in order to pro-actively begin implementing and developing procedures
  • Work with Human Resources to monitor and review workplace accommodations and return to work programs
  • Review safety compliance at each facility including hazard analysis, safe work procedures and write reports and recommendations
  • Research training programs/seminars as necessary
  • Ensure in-house training courses meet legislative requirements and that employee training is up-to-date
  • Keep up to date on machine or equipment changes ensuring that safety precautions are being taken into account
  • Direct and review the analysis of accident and injury data, identifying the needs for new or modified occupational safety programs
  • Research occupational safety information to assure the best available methods and equipment are adopted to minimize the hazards in the work place
  • Advise on improvements in tracking and reporting procedures
  • Periodically act as a team leader to special task forces or teams
  • Provide training to managers and others on occupational safety issues as required

Skills & Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or related field;
  • CRSP Designation or equivalent
  • WSIB Core Certification
  • 5 + years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Proficient in MS Office including Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Must be extremely organized and a self-starter; able to work with limited supervision and has a high level of initiative and resourcefulness
  • Strong interpersonal and trouble-shooting skills; deals with conflict effectively
  • Must excel at coping with conflicting priorities and deadlines
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the WSIA
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and a professional and pleasant attitude
  • Must be a highly motivated, service and team-oriented individual with an attention to detail
  • Travel as necessary between facilities located in Cambridge, Kitchener, Woodstock, Paris and Brantford
  • Able to work overtime as required
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent teamwork and teambuilding skills
  • Able to utilize the strengths of team members and provide opportunities for growth
  • Ability to develop and conduct presentations at various levels within the organization
