Course Description: On a daily basis, you will perform a variety of physical activities to develop your understanding of the basic physiological principles associated with body sculpting exercise. These activities will develop cardiorespiratory endurance, increase muscular endurance and strength, flexibility, and enhance your understanding of nutrition as designed by the Cobb County Schools and Georgia Performance State Standards. You will learn about becoming physically active and discovering ways to achieve and maintain a lifetime of health and fitness.

Student Expectations:

  1. Be on time.
  2. Respect teachers, other students and their property.
  3. Follow the rules as stated in the SCHS Student Handbook.
  4. Dress properly and participate each day.
  5. Take proper care of equipment and use it appropriately.
  6. Students are encouraged to bring a small towel and water to class EVERYDAY.
  7. Phones and/or headphones will not be permitted to be used during class time! Please store them away in your book bag or locker. YOU WILL LOSE HALF OF YOUR PARTICIPATION POINTS!!
  8. Be an active listener and ready to cooperate.
  9. Do not get up to leave the class at the end of the block until you are dismissed.

Class Dress Code:

  1. T-Shirt with Sleeves
  2. Comfortable and supportive fitness apparel (i.e. yoga pants, T-shirt, dri-fit tops)
  3. Sweats and workout fitness apparel needed as weather permits
  4. Closed toe shoes. Athletic sneakers are A MUST! THIS FOR YOUR SAFETY!
  5. Avoid wearing excessive jewelry
  6. Without proper fitness attire, students will be allowed to participate in physical activities but will not receive credit for dressing out.

Class Schedule: You are encouraged to report to the gym by the time the tardy bell rings. If not, you are considered late and will be marked tardy for class. (Please refer to the tardy policy for consequences).After attendance is recorded, students will be given 5 minutes to dress out and meet me in the classroom A202 to record attendance and begin exercise. At the end of each period after you are dismissed from working out, get dressed and report back to the room.

GRADING POLICY:You are expected to dress out daily. Students earn 20 points per day for dressing out and 20 points per day for participation. The final grade in this class will be determined using the following formula/criteria:

Summative Assessments:

Participation – 60%

Assessments and Projects – 10%

Final Exam – 10%

Formative Assessments:

Dressing Out – 15%

Literacy (Article Reflections and Journals) – 5%

This syllabus is a general outline of the course and is subject to modification. * I reserve the right to adjust the course work and/or differentiate instruction as needed to meet the needs of students and ensure academic success.*

Each student has been provided with a copy of this syllabus. The syllabus should be signed by a parent/guardian, shown to the teacher for verification, and retained in the student’s fitness journal.
