The centre is for patients, their carers and family members whether an inpatient, outpatient or patient of a GP, that provides the following servicesfree of charge:
- Leaflets on all key health conditions
- Details of national and local support groups
- Internet based health information
- Information on services and support provided by Tameside Council
- Information in a range of community languages and other formats
- Staff available to help you find the information you need
The centre is open between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. Outside these hours you can leave a message on the telephone voicemail service, or you can email them.

NHS Choices is the country's biggest health website and gives much of the information you need to make choices about your health. You can enter your post code to find information about hospitals, GPs and dentists and urgent care.
As well as basic contact details and information about these services, you can also find feedback from other people about what they think about these services.
It’s not just limited to NHS information. You can also find information about other services in your area (often provided by charities) that can help you with conditions from Alzheimer’s through to weight loss.

You should call the NHS 111 service if you need medical help fast, but it’s not a 999 emergency.
111 is the NHS non-emergency number. It’s fast, easy and free. Call 111 and speak to a highly trained adviser, supported by healthcare professionals. They will ask you a series of questions to assess your symptoms and immediately direct you to the best medical care for you.
NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls are free from landlines and mobile phones.

Although treatment on the NHS is free at the point of delivery, there may still be some costs (for example, your journey to hospital). However, check your eligibility to see if any of the cost can be reclaimed, which should ease any added stress.
