First Aid at Work

Later this year a new programme for training First Aiders is to be introduced which presents us with an ideal opportunity to review first aid provisions. Brian Gregory, fromSafety Management UK Ltd, providers of First Aider Training, will take us through the requirements of the First Aid Regulations, recent changes and the new training regimeswhich will be introduced in October.

Risk Management from an Insurers Point of View

Each year, printing companies report approximately 1,200 work related accidents to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Over 200 of these accidents will be classified as major injuries such as fractures and amputations and many through good risk management process could have been avoided. In addition, we have had 4 fatalities in the industry. This is too high a price to pay.

Our speakers from R Harrison, who manage the BPIF Insurance Scheme and AXA, who underwrite the scheme, will take us through the risk management process and explain what they as insurers expect of companies.

Accidents Reporting and Claims

Increasingly companies are reporting more incidents of the late reporting of accidents especially after weekends or following late shifts and in following up claims solicitors are making requests for risk assessment for such trivial processes as the use of a door. Liz Cheetham, BPIF Health, Safety and Environmental Adviser will open up what will be a wide- ranging discussion on this topic. It would be invaluable if companies could send to Liz details of such incidents and claims. These will be given a reference number so the company concerned cannot be identified during the meeting but the issues involved can be discussed freely to allow companies to develop a strategy for dealing with these situations. Liz can be contacted at

Following the meeting there will may be an opportunity to tour the site
