Role Summary

The Head of Strength and Conditioning will develop and deliver theStrength and Conditioning support program to players across all Academy phases. This includes pre-training preparation and post-training strategies, field based conditioning and general strength and conditioning support. They will also support the Academy staff and contribute to the MDT approach to player development. In addition they will also be responsible for the management and professional development of the Assistant Sports Scientist.

Key Responsibilities

  • The delivery of individual and group strength and conditioning services to all Academy players.
  • Work with the football coaches to develop practices that incorporate physical, tactical, technical and mental components so that time spent training maximises parameters as efficiently and effectively as possible.
  • Work with the Academy Sports Science and Medicine staff todemonstrate measurable improvements in physical performance in Academy players byleading the development, implementation and evaluation of strength and conditioning programmes.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of work conducted with players and coaches. To include monitoring of heart rate, training loads and session intensities, hydration status, session content, strength and conditioning and rehab/prehab sessions delivered to Academy players.
  • Support the PL FTO’s physical testing at regular times throughout the season and monitor and assess activities to construct profile based on athletic competency.
  • Work effectively with other support staff and services to provide an informed andintegrated, multi-disciplinary approach to performance development.
  • Contribute to the development, application and assess efficacy of multi sport programming within the Academy.
  • Contribute to thedevelopment and delivery of nutritional strategies to help promote performance nutrition within the Academy players.
  • Assist in the monitoring of growth and physical development of Academy players including anthropometrical assessment of players.
  • Support the collaborative links with universities to help facilitate research development and internship opportunities.

ManagingPeople & Developing Strong Working Relationships
  • To provide inspirational leadership and guidance to direct reports, team members, casual workers and volunteers.
  • Ensure all team members are fully informed of Club wide and Academy specific operational objectives.
Set operational and/or performance goals for the team which are clearly linked to the long term goals of the Academy and the Club and encourage development of the existing operation.
Monitor department performance against performance goals to ensure that progress is being made.
Leadweekly departmental meetingsand actively participate in other meetings (internal & external) as and whenrequired.
Conduct regular meetings with Team members to ensure that priorities are clear and coordination is good.
Complete Performance Reviews for all direct reports as and when required, oversee development for all team members, identify areas for development and work closely with team members to ensure.

Safeguarding
  • Monitor potential safeguarding children risks and work with the Academy Safeguarding Officer, and the Head of Safeguarding for Everton Football Club to promote safer working practice throughout the Academy.
  • Understandthe Academy Safeguarding policy, procedures and best practice guidelines. Use this understanding to ensure safer recruitment, safe working practices, appropriate reporting of concerns and contribute positively to an Anti-bullying environment.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Skills & Abilities
Essential / Desirable
  • Ability to construct a variety of S&C training programmes, both gym and field based.
  • Ability to coach and integrate football skills and techniques into S&C sessions.
  • A hard working leader.

  • Open minded and strong influential persuader.

  • Computer and/or Excel macro programming.

Knowledge & Experience
Essential / Desirable
  • Experience in an elite youth football environment.
  • Experience of leading junior staff.
  • Experience in developing, implementing and evaluating strength and conditioning/rehab and prehabilitationprogrammes.
  • An understanding of I.T. and ability to use computer based programmes to fulfil the role of the job.
