HEAD OF COFFEE PROGRAMME

Part 1: INTRODUCTION

Twin is a development through trade NGO working with 33 producer organisations representing 300,000 coffee, cocoa and nut smallholders in 17 countries across Latin America, Africa and Asia. Part 2: JOB PROFILE

JOB TITLE:Head of Coffee Programme

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

  • Supervision of African & Latin American coffee project execution.
  • Management of project managers
  • Business development/Fundraising strategy
  • Responsible for defining the strategy for the coffee Producer Partnership Programme (PPP)
  • Responsible for strengthening relationship with Twin’s trading company, Twin Trading
  • External relationship: donors, private companies
POSITION IN ORGANISATION

Reports to: Managing director (MD). Part of the Senior Management Team (SMT)

Manages:African Coffee Project Officer, Senior Manager African Coffee, Latin America Coffee Project officer, Climate and Environment Project Office, Regional African Coordinator & MEL Officer.

Has support from:Othermembers from PPP team

DIMENSIONS & LIMITS OF AUTHORITY

  • Supervision of Coffee PPPProgramme budget
  • Defines coffee strategy with Managing Director
  • Responsible for developing relationships with existing or new donors & clients
  • Direct responsibility for the management of assigned projects
  • Staff management: as above.

Part 3: RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

JOB TITLE:Head of Coffee Programme

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Project management

  • Supervises Project Officers and Project Managers to make sure projects are delivered effectively through the entire cycle from development and submission to execution, monitoring & reporting
  • Responsible for the global budget and Profit & Loss of coffee projects
  • Manages relationship with key donors and key customers
  • Responsible for strengthening relationship with Twin Trading

Strategy

  • Seats in the Senior Management Team alongside the Managing Director, the Head of Twin Trading and the Head of Finance
  • Defines global coffee strategy for Africa and Latin America
  • Defines common & specific approached in the 2 regions
  • Ensures that all projects implemented by coffee team are in line with Twin’s approach (capacity building, governance, gender, environment & climate change, access to market)
  • Attends Board meeting

Business development

  • Development and implementation of fundraising strategy for coffee
  • Responsible for establishing relationships with new donors
  • Special focus on business development in Latin America

Internal management

  • Responsible for management of project officers and project managers
  • Responsible for appraising Project Managers and Officers with direct line management

Part 4: SKILLS

  • At least 6 years experience working in International Development
  • At least 3 years working in coffee sector or on agricultural supply chains
  • Proven experience of securing funding above £500K
  • Proven experience of managing teams
  • Master degree on trade, international development, agriculture, etc
  • Good knowledge of ethical trading context and/or certified value chains
  • Ability to bring new donors to Twin (EU, USAID, amongst others)
  • Proven experience on gender in value chains
  • Fluent in French and/or Spanish highly desirable

Part 6: PACKAGE

  • Annual salary: £45,000 to £50,000
  • Pension scheme: 6% employer contribution based on an employee contribution of 3%
  • Holiday allowance: 25 days per year
