Signing-up for the Arcola Football Team does not guarantee candidates a spot on the team. We will be able to support a team of approximately 40 athletes. Coaches will consider multiple factors including: character, attitude, effort, ability, performance, and conditioning in relation to team needs in order to develop our roster.
Organized Team Activities (OTA’s) on the Arcola Football field
Monday, August 24ththrough Thursday, August 27th; 3:45 pm to 5:45 pm
Dress appropriately for the weather – T-shirt, Shorts, Football cleats
Bring water!!!!Mark your container with your name
Pick-up no later than 5:45 pm

TRYOUTS (IF NECESSARY)
Tryouts will be necessary if more than 40 athletes are going to come out for the team
Tuesday, September 1st & Wednesday, September 2nd, 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm – Cuts made after Wednesday’s tryout
Thursday, September 3rd – First official team practice

- **Arcola Pre-Participation Physical Packet – May not participate in team activities without this.
- **imPACT Concussion Test– Must be completed by all 7th graders and any 8th grader that has never been tested. May not participate in team activities if not completed
- **Emergency Card – May not participate in team activities without this.
- ~Pay to Participate Fee – You will be suspended from the team if not turned in by September 14th
- ~Football Parent/Athlete Letter –Found on the last page of the team packet. Sign and return by September 14th. If done before the end of the year, you may leave it in the box outside the boys gym office.Otherwise, turn in to Mr. Schulz at your first practice.

ARCOLA FOOTBALL – RULES AND EXPECTATIONS
- Eligibility: You are a student first, athlete second.
- Grades are checked on a weekly basis by Mr. Schnabel, Arcola’s Athletic Liaison.
- 1 F = You will not play in the first half of the next game
- 2 F’S = Suspended from the team for a week (PIAA Rule).
- Character: Always demonstrate good character; on the field, in the classroom, at home, EVERYWHERE! If there is a team issue, speak to a coach in a respectful manner before or after practice.
- School Disciplinary Issues: School rules supersede team rules
- Make good choices, then everyone is happy.
- School Suspensions: You will be dismissed from the team
- Attendance:
- Practice begins at 3:05, EVERYDAY unless Mr. Schulz says otherwise.
- Injured players will report to the athletic trainer first then go to the practice field.
- Pre-game practice is the most important practice of the week. Those who are not there may not get a chance to play in the game.
- Excuse notes: A note from your parents must be provided at least one day in advance of your absence. The absence will be counted as “Unexcused” unlessa note is received.
- Excused absences consist of the following…
- Absent from school
- Doctor’s appointments.
- Doctor or school nurse recommendation not to practice due to illness (need a note from them to confirm, the athlete does not make that decision)
- Death in the family or another personal family issue.
- School event that must be attended (will require a note from the adult in charge of the event; must attend and want to attend aren't the same)
- 1 Unexcused = 1 game suspension – you will practice but not attend the game with the team.
- 2 Unexcused = dismissal from the team.
- Playing Time: Not guaranteed. Determined by your effort, attitude, and potential to help the team at that time of the game. Speak to a coach before or after practice if you have a question about playing time.
- Equipment: All equipment will be provided for you. It is your responsibility to keep it clean and in good condition. If anything is not returned, you will be charged the cost of that item.
- Parent Pick-up time – Parents are responsible for arranging a ride for pick-up no later than…

- Games – Home = 5:30, Away = 6:00
***Please contact the coaching staff if you have any problems finding a ride for your child. We will help you arrange a car pool with teammates.
- PRE-PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS –
Read the following VERY CAREFULLY and follow the instructions, your ability to participate depends upon it.
- ARCOLA PRE-PARTICIPATION PHYSICALS PACKET
- Complete and return to Arcola’s Main Office prior to the first day of practice. You CANNOTparticipate without it. You may also turn-in to your coach on the day of participation.

- Schedule an appointment with your family Doctor today!!You may not be able to get an appointment scheduled in time if you delay
- Alternatives to your family physician – Premier Urgent Care and some CVS Minute Clinics offer physicals on a “walk-in” basis, appointments are not necessary.
- imPACT TEST ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing)
- Every athlete in every sport is required to take this test prior to participating in athletics.

- You may not participate until this has been done.

- A $50, one-time per athlete fee to participate in athletics.
- This must be paid by September 14th or you will be suspended until completed.

- The last page of the packet needs to be signed by a parent/ guardian and the athlete.
- Before the summer a box will be set up outside of the office in the boys locker room, leave this signed document there.
- Otherwise, give to Mr. Schulz at practice.
- Monday, September 14th; this must be completed and returned to Mr. Schulz by this date or the athlete will be suspended from the team until it gets done.

- View and practice the “Warm-up” video. You are expected to know how to do this for the first practice.
- Physical skills that you should work to develop for football – strength, speed, agility, power, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility
- Those who are in great shape for tryouts have a better chance to make the team than those who are out of shape.
