Bell Update – July 7, 2012
Nick Martinoli first had the idea for the bell tower a couple of weeks before the bell was stolen from Immaculate Conception.
· He had to meet with Troy Bean at DCI Engineering to go over the project and supply him with a visual that way he could draw up the plans, when the church wanted me to modify the tower shape, NICK had to coordinate that with them as well.
· Nick had several meetings with the groups that are affiliated with the church including the Knights of Columbus, Parish Council, Building Commission and individuals such as Bill King and his dad Bill Martinoli, who were able to add insight to the project.
· In order to get the city permits Nick had to get the engineered plans, an artistic rendering and written permission from you as well as other paperwork, he also had to show the city a site map of the project as well as of the church.
· Nick had to coordinate a lot of things with bill king. He had to coordinate materials, location, approximate timeline and the structure of the beam work so that the bell would fit inside of the tower in the correct position.
· He requested in kind donations from several companies and he was fortunate to be able to receive a partial donation from DCI Engineering (they had me pay for tax) and he also received the complete lumber package from Cascade Lumber. These donations really made my project possible because they cut my costs down by probably $8,500.
· The steps that Nick had to take to complete the construction on the project were, 1) secure plans, 2) obtain permits, 3) dig foundation/set rebar and electrical 4) get electrical/foundation inspection, 5) pour concrete 6)set posts/beams 7) frame, sheath roof 8) have framing inspection 9) Have State Roofing put shingles on the roof 10) have the clear coat painted on the structure 11) have the concrete finished 12) dig the drip line out and place drain rock 13) run the rest of the electricity 14) hang the bell 15) have the bell company hook the bell up to the electricity 16) have final electrical inspection 17) have final building inspection. Just as a side note, NICK didn’t personally lead every project but these were the steps needed to complete the entire tower.
· Nick had to coordinate with State Roofing and Ski Painting to get the roofing and the finishing completed. During this process he had to coordinate when they were going to be there, what they were going to be doing and how much it would cost, among other things. Nick also had to coordinate between Desi Salazar and the weather to get the concrete finished as it had to be sunny for a few days before we put the sealant on the concrete.
· The final building inspection is the only thing that remains with the city and that will be complete before the July 15th dedication.
