The Gardens at 900- 1065 Acorn Trail Lake Forest

The Gardens at 900 are a sensitive renovation of the original entry building complex and gardens of Elawa Farm. Originally designed by architect David Adler in 1917 for A. Watson and Elsa Armour, the buildings had been abandoned for nearly a decade before becoming both private residence and the design offices for Craig Bergmann and Paul Klug. Formal borders, a shade garden, an orchard, a new swimming pool garden constitute the garden today.

The Garden of Many Circles-- Winnetka, IL

A secluded courtyard welcomes you to a country house originally designed in 1935 by architect Ralph Huszagh. But don't let the calm entry fool you. A step through the antique gates and honeysuckle-laced arch marks the fusion of old and new. Here you'll explore gardens interwoven with the ancient precision of labyrinth geometry and modern waves of native color. Year by year, the landscape has evolved as the current owner's knowledge and appreciation for gardening developed. There emerged a "garden-freak's" obsession to create a fun and magical place that would cast its spell on all who enter. See an aerial hedge of Carpinus betulusinstalled in 2013, and the garden which continues to take shape through a variety of influences both near and far.

Evanston Lakefront Garden- 707 Sheridan Road. Evanston

Centered around a stone fountain, the front garden of this lovingly restored Queen Anne house is an exuberant flowering tapestry that is only a foretaste of what is to come upon passing through the garden gates. Beneath a hedge of hybrid dogwood, the first view of this expansive lakefront garden comes into view framed by a magnificent poplar tree of monumental proportions. Four hundred feet in the distance an open garden pavilion beckons from atop a lakefront dune. The journey to the lake passes a formal koi pond, fabulous pieces of Southeast Asian garden art, a bubbling fountain, and a collection of linked gardens featuring Japanese maples, hydrangeas, roses, and rhododendrons. At the lake, quartzite revetments and a breakwater protect a private beach planted with dune grasses, colorful sedums, roses, and sculptural Japanese white pines. Relax, have a seat, and take in the lake view.
