Treasurer’s Report presented.
Cleanliness: DonMack spoke about the importance of dealing early with the cigarette butts and trash issue. He mentioned “pocket ashtrays”.
Peter noted that the Annual clean-up is scheduled before the street fair. Multnomah Co. Health Dept. could make up signs or HBBA could have an “I’m a business owner and my business helps keep Hawthorne clean” sign for windows.
Peter would like to see some awards at the Annual Meeting: cleanliness, storefront improvements, new developments, etc.
HawthorneBridge fundraiser: Sharon Wood Wortman spoke of her need to have one more sponsor for the incredible 2010 HawthorneBridgecalendar being printed as a fundraiser for the 100 year birthday celebration of the HawthorneBridge. $16,200 was raised with the 2009 calendar sales. She needs $2900 to pay for the printing and is willing to put several logos on one page. Metro East Community Media is printing 5000 and she hopes to reprint. The County has no funds for a party.
Crime & Safety
Katherine Anderson works east of 39thwhich will be patrolled by East precinct, west of 39th is Central. The question has been the NRT officers. Steve Gandy and Jeff Ponti come out of east precinct and will probably be “our” officers. She is not sure, though, who will drop by HBBA’s meeting yet or who will be the NRT officer/s west of 39th.
HBBA is still working on sharing the cost of the little office at 48th with the NA’s and other BDA’s.
The Abandoned Auto program will stay as will the Graffiti line item for hiring contractors to do the cleaning. There are people working on identifying funds to continue the program after the one year funding runs out.
The Mediation program was cut (Resolutions NW).
Regarding the Neighborhood agreement with the upper Hawthorne liquor establishments: it was noted that there are more than there were when the Neighborhood Agreement was signed. There will be an NA/BDA/establishments meeting soon.
It was also noted that there were a couple of major frauds being investigated recently. Katherine will keep us posted.
There has been some progress made between the neighbors and Hawthorne Theater. The theater management has made some changes. One time funding for graffiti being returned to the budget was at Mayor Adams request. Roger Jones spoke with concern about the pending Mayor Adams recall petition, noting that he was a good friend of Hawthorne Blvd. and the Business Districts of Portland.
Hand
HAND is facing the challenge of the bicycle/autos/pedestrian conflict in the community, particularlyat Ladd’s Circle with all its streets.
The 20th & Hawthorne meeting will happen soon regarding the speed control measures perceived to be necessary after the 17 tenants have moved in. $13,500 is deposited with HBBA to fund whatever is decided upon.
HAND is also hoping for a pocket park at 17th & Division on land which is owned by the city. There will be a party there on June 20th.
There will be a light rail meeting soon regarding SE12th & Clinton Max issues.
The Park Bureau is offering $1000 for 100 completed surveys regarding the Community Center approved for the former Washington Monroe HS property.
Membership/Street Fair
Meeting at Acme Coffee next at 4:30 on Monday.
Former Green Source is now Graey Collection which sells men’s and women’s clothes. Too Much Beauty is the new beauty shop in the same building.
The member list and the database will go out to each of the board members.
The map was discussed and who will be visiting the businesses after the mailing goes out. Marcus suggests using the street fair as a door opener.
Peter will contact Rich Cassidy from Sunday Parkways to find out the definite streets being closed and other relevant information.
Coupon Book
Karin noticed that the website was missing from one of the newspaper ads and expressed her disappointment since she felt that was the primary reason for HBBA's participation.
Choose Local Card/Hawthorne map
Kyle wants to be at the street fair and distribute the Hawthorne/Belmont maps and cards. They want to “brand” the Choose Local card by district, also. They recently sent out a request for a tag line. “Empowering Your Community” may be it. People like the maps and Kyle would like to work with HBBA on branding and connecting. 200 businesses participate and 30,000 cards.
The Oregonian
Adam Rice of the Oregonian announced they are offering ad space in their A&E section at $31 an inch.
APNBA
The conference was canceled and will probably be rescheduled for September.
Happy to hear the graffiti program still has a budget and will so note to APNBA.
The Business District Effectiveness seminar was held for the Board of Directors. There will be an expanded distribution of important material to the BDA Presidents, not just the APNBA delegates/Board members.
Roger asked if the Columbia Corridor support letter got written. It does not appear that it did.
Other
Linda said she and others have been looking at the 20 minute neighborhood concept and how it plays out in the corridors.
Pedalpalooza may happen soon and it may happen on Hawthorne.
July 18th is the two year birthday of Crossroads which is busy and concerned about theft recently. They have been actuallyremoving suspects from the store.
Jim Nudelman with Paychecks said he was happy to be here and meet everyone.
Elsa and Sam’s one year party will be on Thursday.

New Business
Peter will put it out on the list serve to see if there are other businesses that want to help with a calendar page. Looking at $250 to advertise We will try to sponsor August. Rivermark CCU will see if they can share a page with someone else. Roger moved that HBBA spend $250 to support the 2010 Bridge Calendar, hopefully with a Rivermark CCU match, and request August. The motion was seconded and passed. Peter will call Sharon.
