Harrison Township Recreation Board and Citizens Advisory Committee Minutes
June 28, 2016
- Welcome, Meeting Dates and General Information
- Board Members present: Cecelia Lilly, Mike Cebula, Buff Nolen, Natalie Cale, and Joshua Nulph (appointed to the board to replace Angelo Corso)
- Committee members present: Todd Stanzione, Robin Bergstrom, John Babinsack, Kristie Babinsack, Megan Zendarski
- The Board and Committee will meet every third Mondayof the month at 7:00(1 week before the monthly Commissioners meeting): July 18, August 15, September 19, October 17, November 14* and December 12* (*meetings held a week early due to the holidays)
- It is recommended that a couple board members make a short presentation at the next Commissioners meeting (July)
- Meetings dates and times will be posted on the township website and in the Tribune Review
- BIG (Brackenridge Improvement Group has shown an interest in collaborating with us for future projects)
- Movie Night
- August 17 (August 18 rain date) starting at 8:00
- Tentatively to be held at the Golden Rams Stadium parking lot; paperwork is being submitted to reserve the stadium; there is a refundable $200 deposit to reserve; Harrison Hills is a back up location
- To be advertised as “Family Movie Night;” all children must be accompanied by an adult
- Daryl Bayne has a screen and projection equipment (size of screen to be checked) ; A1 Rental has an 8x8’ screen for $30/day
- Copyright permission must be obtained to show the movie; Swank Motion Pictures will provide a license; the license fee depends on movie choice and total number of people watching (estimating 50-100 people); cost is estimated at $200-300; license must be obtained at least three weeks prior to screening
- Light refreshments to be sold
- To be advertised through signs, the township website and Tribune Review
- Halloween
- Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 is the official Treat-or-Treat night
- We need to advertise/communicate this date throughout Harrison Township to get all community members on board via the website, Tribune Review and posters
- Chief Klein has been contacted and is receptive to our plans
- Brackenridge and Tarentum have been notified of our plans; Brackenridge very receptive to coordinating with us (if not this year, definitely next year; they will get back to us)
- Christmas Parade and Celebration
- Saturday, December 3, 2016 starting at 5:00
- Parade route to start on Pacific Ave. near ATI Lab, onto Alabama, right onto Broadview Blvd., right at Eat n Park, around the block ending between OLMBS field and library
- Two possible locations for culminating events
- Highlands High School band put the parade on their schedule; Michael Zeiler will DJ with High School chorus possibly performing
- Highland Tire/Highland Integrity agreed to be involved in parade; Thompsons also being contacted
- HHS Honor Society to be contacted about setting up their “Stuff a Bus” campaign
- Blessed Sacrament and Saint Joseph schools to be contacted to participate
- Churches, houses and other businesses along the parade path to be contacted to participate in culminating activities
- Boy/Eagle Scouts, Girl Scouts and other organizations/groups to be invited to participate
- A formal invitation will be sent to businesses, fire departments and organizations to participate as well as an invitation posted in the Tribune Review
- Still looking to include food booths, cookies, hot chocolate, craft tables, letter writing to Santa, tree lighting, and decoration (everyone invited to bring an ornament for the tree)
- Next Meeting July 18 at 7:00 at the Municipal Building
