17 th / Paper 1: evaluation groups. Quiz: fragments. Due: Response paper 2. Comma splices and run-on sentences. Revision: word choice. Sentence combining: coordination. Discussion of movies. T / Ch. 20, 35. Bring in your final draft and a copy of your favorite magazine.

1.  Call roll.

2.  discussion of The War Game. Begin by asking students to read their response papers for each question. Note any questions that no one picks for revision. Don’t just summarize the movie/documentary; remember your audience saw it too. These response papers should discuss the thoughts that watching brought to you.

3.  Collect the response papers after the discussion, giving students the usual five minutes for final proofreading.

4.  class evaluation of a student example nuclear memories paper. Point out things students should look for in their evaluation groups

  1. description of the subject’s appearance
  2. description of the interview location. Check to see that these sentences use descriptive action verbs rather than linking verbs.
  3. Organization, usually chronological.

5.  evaluation groups: Divide class into groups of 3 or 4. after each group finishes, they should take. Their fifteen minute break.

6.  Revision: word choice. Begin working through the chapter, starting on H80. then examine rough drafts for problems with word choice. Also discuss the content of the nuke memories paper and have students work on refining that: for instance, including additional direct quotations, reducing the number of indirect quotations.

7.  discuss compound sentences, structure of main clauses and punctuation of them. then do the sentence coordination exercises.

Homework

Do the sentence coordination exercise a second time, using a different method of coordination from the one used in class. Have both variations ready to submit next class. Polish the draft of the nuclear memories paper for submission. Remember, 12 pt. Font size, double spaced, typed papers are all that will be accepted. If your computer crashes, you’ll have to print out your paper on campus in the library.
