Happy New Year 2017!

To all Parents, Carers & Friends of BOSH, BOSH4, BOSH5, and BOSH8 Out of School Hours Clubs.

Welcome to another edition of News and Views – a news sheet that updates you on happenings at the breakfast and after school clubs run by the BOSH team. If you would like to contact us there are plenty of other ways; a note via our Play Managers, by letter, telephone or preferably email: (enquiries @boshonline.com). See contact details at the end of ‘News and Views’. If you would like to contribute an article or letter to be published in a future edition, we would be pleased to include it.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO CONTACT YOUR PLAY MANAGER (TEXT IS FINE) IF YOUR CHILD IS BOOKED INTO A BOSH SESSION BUT WILL NOT BE ATTENDING THAT DAY FOR WHATEVER REASON -THANKS

BOSH5 (Rolls Crescent school in Hulme)

BOSH5 continues to thrive under the management of Margaret McIllhinney. She is supported now by Eddie Ashton (level 3and regular holiday club Play Manager), Fayaaq Mohammed (an experienced Play Worker, currently undertaking NVQ level 2 in Play work). A very welcome addition to this already strong team in May last year was Natalie Addison (CACHE level 3 and experienced Teaching Assistant). This club continues to receive great feedback from the children, parents/carers and school head teacher and very pleasingly, as many of you already know, (but we are delighted to tell you) received a GOOD OFSTED rating from an inspection in September (details via the OFSTED link on our website). Well done too to our very own BOSH football team who train together regularly at club and despite being younger managed to perform extremely well at a match away against St Hilda’s School (home of BOSH4) football team!!

BOSH8 (Broad Oak primary school in East Didsbury): Kaleem and Sajida continue to do an excellent job. The club had a huge growth spurt in 2016 and we now employ 2 extra regular staff each week. Linda comes to us with an enormous amount of experience in working with children on art projects. She is an artist herself and regularly exhibits work, so we are very lucky that we have a specialist who can work with the children creatively.

Two other team members to this club are Hasina and Amy. Hasina is a very experienced and qualified Play Worker who is able to help out at short notice. Amy is studying to be a primary school teacher with a special interest in special needs (she is also a very accomplished weightlifter-representing Wales at an international level)!

BOSH4 (St. Hilda’s primary school in Stretford/Firswood):

Jenni Ryan has been leading this club very strongly as Play Manager at BOSH4. Like BOSH8, BOSH4 has grown significantly over the last year and along with our wonderfully loyal and capable Raj, we have welcome Shahnaz to the team. Shahnaz has been an excellent asset for us. As a highly qualified Teaching Assistant at St Hilda’s for many, many years, Shahnaz has transferred from school to BOSH seamlessly and is helping out as Play Manager when needed (also as Breakfast Club manager day to day).

BOSH (Brookburn primary school in Chorlton): BOSH at Brookburn is still our most well used and busy club. Places at the club are still in high demand and we have had to start to operate a WAITING LIST. Catherine and her team of 8-9 Play Workers each evening do a fantastic job to ensure the children are happy, safe and engaged during their time at BOSH.

A special thanks goes to Kim (yet again) for standing in as Deputy Play Manager when Catherine is away and generally supporting Cath and the club so reliably and consistently for (yet) another year! Thanks too to Debbie and Tom for co-ordinating the very successful TALENT SHOW that took place in December. We are hoping this will become a regular event. We would like to welcome some new members of staff to the Brookburn team: Gillian Nisbett joined us recently. Gillian is an extremely experienced and well qualified Play Worker. She has many years of working in school/play settings (also leading her own Manchester City Council sponsored club years ago). We are delighted to have her on the team.

N.B. Could we politely remind parents/carers not to bring children to breakfast clubs until its opening time (7.45am) please and to collect children promptly at/before 6.00pm. After 6.00pm the parents/carers will be charged a Late Fee. Thanks.

STAFF TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

Our Play Managers and Play workers are continually updating their qualifications and skills in line with our organisation’s aims and objectives and OFSTED requirements. All the BOSH Play Managers (PMs) along with key staff at all clubs possess a paediatric first aid qualification. All regular staff are expected to undertake Safeguarding training and food hygiene training shortly after they join BOSH if they do not already have it. Jane McMillan (Director) is undergoing SEN training provided by Manchester City Council to ensure the organisation is up-to-date with latest policies and requirements.

PLACES/WAITING LIST

There are currently spare places available every day at all the clubs except BOSH Brookburnon Tuesdays. Please let Play Managers Catherine (Brookburn), Kaleem (Broad Oak), Jenni (BOSH4) or Margaret (BOSH5) know if you would like any extra sessions for your child(ren). Places are open to any pupil at the School from age 3 to 11. Play Managers direct contact mobile numbers listed at end of this Newsletter.

VOLUNTEERS/SUPPLY PLAY WORKERS..spare time/new career!? If you or anybody you know would like to be considered as either a volunteer (unpaid) or supply Play Worker (paid) at BOSH, please could you fill in an application form (find on our website and return to us) or email . We recruit more volunteers and ‘bank’ staff in an ongoing way to cover absences/maternity leave etc. Normal hours 3.00-6.00p.m. All potential staff/volunteers will be interviewed and fully DBS checked before being allowed to work with the children.
