Volume XVIssue I January 2013

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2013!

Christmas Party: The Annual Christmas party was well attended, and the auction brought in over $1,500 for the Association. Thanks to all who contributed auction items, or who purchased items. Auctioneer Tony Haan did an excellent job again this year. Thanks also to the Kirk Young family for clerking the sale, and thanks to MCL Cafeteria & Bakery for set-up for the party, and for donating three meal cards for the auction.

Website Updated: Check out our website at It’s been updated to include information for the 2013 show, and photos from the 2012 show.

2013 Show Updates: Justin Paschal will provide musical entertainment on Friday, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The IGTPA Garden Tractor pull will take place on Saturday, with weigh-in beginning at 2 p.m. The pull will start at 3:00 p.m.

Flea Market: We are looking for quality flea market vendors. The location of the flea market will be determined, but will not be on the parking lot. Directors Ronda Cassens & Vicky Mellady are working hard to bring in vendors. For this year only, there will be no charge for flea market spaces. No electrical hook-ups will be available, but generators are allowed. If you have suggestions, please contact Vicky or Ronda.

In memory: Albert Becker passed away on October 25, 2012. “Master Tinkerer” Albert had been an exhibitor at every TSGPA show, and had served as a Director in the past. Our condolences go out to Debbie & family.

2013Show Volunteer Opportunities: It’s never too early to think about helping out during the show. This year, we’ll need helpers at the main gate, as well as at Registration. We’ll also need help with set-up and tear down activities.

The Registration area will need volunteers from Wednesday through Saturday. Registration is located on the north end of the amphitheater building, under the overhang. In addition to registering exhibitors, these volunteers are also responsible for collecting membership dues, selling hats, T-shirts, and buttons. Contact any Director if you have questions. We’re also looking for a member to coordinate the volunteers for Registration.

Workers will be needed at the main gate to direct exhibitors, collect ticket money, and give directions and information. Volunteers are needed Wednesday (to direct incoming exhibitors only), and on Thursday, Friday, and Saturdayfrom 7:00 a.m. until the time that we determine to stop selling tickets. Workers will be outside during their shifts at the gate, and you’ll need to be on your feet most of the time. Please contact Vicky Mellady for details.

Tractor drivers will be needed for the shuttles during the show. You need to be over 18 years of age and a licensed driver with your own tractor. We’ll also need riders on each shuttle wagon to make sure that guests get on and off safely. Kirk Young is coordinating drivers and riders.

Membership: TSGPA currently has 151adult members, 13 junior members & 74 lifetime members.

Upcoming events:

  • Directors & Advisors Meeting – Meeting will be scheduled for March or April – watch for card!
  • General Meeting – June or early July – Date to be determined.
  • 2013 Show set-up dates – Monday, July 30 – Wednesday, August 1.
  • Bean supper – Wednesday, July 31, 2013
  • 2013 Show dates – Thursday, August 1 – Saturday, August 3.

2013 Feature: This year’s show will feature John Deere equipment. Please keep in mind that although we feature a specific manufacturer or type of equipment, there is plenty of room for all exhibits. Don’t hesitate to bring your exhibit just because we are featuring a different make!

Gate Book Ads: We’ll be contacting previous gate book advertisers in the next few months. We do have spaces in the gate book for more ads, so if you’d like to sponsor an ad, please contact Peggy Bryant. The cost is $25 for a business card-sized ad. A full-page ad would run $400. This is a great way to show your support for the organization, and get your company’s name in the gate book. Individuals or families can also show their support by buying a space in the gate book. We’re always open to new advertisers, so if you know of a company that might be interested in this, please let Peggy know.
