Duties and Functions
Directorate of Industries & Commerce
This Directorate has been setup in this Union Territory of Puducherry to promote /develop industries and to establish an investment friendly climate through transparent and proactive governance.
Objectives:-
· Ensuring balanced and sustainable industrial development in all the regions of the Union Territory, while conserving all the aspects of the environment.
· Developing a strong manufacturing sector with focus on employment generation, product competitiveness and value addition in products.
· Promotion of rapid industrialization and making Puducherry the most preferred investment destination with the ultimate objective of achieving inclusive growth.
· Achieving higher export growth.
· Improving standard of living through gainful employment by enhancing the employability and skill sets of the work force.
Functions
· Measures to Promote Investment in Puducherry.
· Issue of EM Part I (Provisional) / EM Part II (Permanent) Registrations to MSMEs
· Issue of NOC for location /Production Certificate for Large-scale industries.
· To assist entrepreneurs/industrialists and facilitate speedy and time bound processing of applications with the line departments through Industrial Guidance Bureau(IGB).
· To grant subsidy to the eligible industries (subject to the schemes in enforcement)
· Allotment of scarce raw materials through NSIC, Puducherry
Organizational Structure
At the State Level, the Secretary to Government has been appointed to control and oversee the activities of the Department and a Directorate has been set up in the UT headquarters headed by a Director. At regional level Assistant Director Technical officers head the branch office and sub offices. The organizational structure is given below.
